Right on you are 36869. Conversation like this is possible, covers more than what we get from the "selected" few that so often play the job protection game.
Takes me back to the quarterback thing and it is agreeing with most of what has been said in this thread.
Think it was after the LSU game, toward the end, grantham came over and paid his respects to AM. Think I am right about the particular game, right now can't say 100%.
When a team has a recognized leader, especially at quarterback, it effects both sides of the ball. There was no question that both the offense and the defense knew AM was the team leader. Many games were won because of his leadership. that comes from players seeing AM get off the ground against Auburn when he was nailed by Fairley, and others.
Same can be said for the Alabama player that blasted AM in front of the Referee, no flag thrown. AM got up, many would not have.
FSU goes undefeated and are the National Champions. They have a leader and it is evident who that is, the quarterback. Auburn was handing it to him until the time came when he took control of "his" play on the field.
Does not always have to be the quarterback, good example of that was Jarvis Jones. He made his reputation with his actions. His actions started before he actually go to play an SEC game. JJ was kicking butt in practice, totally disrupting what the offense was trying to do. That is the kind of play that sparked some of our wins from a defensive standpoint.
Then we look at some of our past mistakes. head coach keeping Moreno on the sideline. That in my opinion is on the head coach, not the offensive coordinator. Another reason that I believe that our head coach has some "holes" in his coaching resume.
Until I can be convinced otherwise, I do not believe that the coaching staff in Athens coaches "together" as a "team". That is just as important as the Offensive Team, Defensive Team, Special Teams playing "together". Actually more important.
Coaching is required for these young players transitioning from high school to college. Especially entering the SEC to play college football. That is one thing that really sticks out when we watch young players in their 2nd, 3rd years under grantham's system still not understanding. No room to hide in 2014, lots of young players returning on defense.
One more thing. On the offensive side of the ball we know about Gurley, Marshall, Douglas and Green. We also know that Michel and Chubb are heading to Athens.
AJ Turman is an absolute beast. Where are all of these talented young players going to fit in or find playing time? Heard the excuse from our head coach about needing so many running backs, he is right. Right because players like Gurley and Marshall, Douglas and Green having to make their own holes to run through. head coach ever take the time to look at the injuries during the year on the offensive line? Playing second string all of his life, did not have to face what AM, Gurley and others have had to face. Needs to get his head relocated and fix what really needs to be fixed. Dream on.
