Ever think about comments from our coaches saying that they don’t listen or read the “stuff” that is said on the internet. Why, first off would the coaches not want to read what the supporters of the program are saying?
In our case (UGA) it has become apparent why the coaches make those statements.
The fan base has or is catching up quickly to the way our team is being handled.
Every year in February we are told the talent that is coming in represents a great recruiting year. When many of the higher ranked football players go elsewhere, we are told that recruiting was based on position need. Coach speak.
Top linebacker in Georgia and maybe the nation, as rated by the folks that rate players skills . . . . Going to ohio state.
Top rated defensive lineman in Georgia, pulls his pledge and chooses Auburn.
Seem to be getting talent from Florida and the Carolinas . . . . What is the problem in Georgia?
It has become very obvious that there is TRULY a problem with the group of coaches in Athens.
One of the main problems is we had a coach come to Athens from the NFL. Wearing the big shield of the NFL on his chest and let everyone know that there would be championships once he got situated. How long does it take to get settled in and have your side of the ball performing. Regardless of whether he was the first or the tenth coach interviewed for the job, he has failed miserably.
Not for a minute do I believe todd grantham has a 3/4 system that is head and shoulders above any other coaches in the country teaching the 3/4. There are certain things you can do with different formations, but it still comes down to understanding your position. That is Step 1. Defensive coordinator grantham has basically failed for one reason . . . . He did not know how to teach Step 1. This season, he does not have a quarterback the likes of AM. That is not a shot at Hutson Mason, it is simply the truth.
If we have a quarterback that can run and pass the football, understands the playbook, why would he sit?
An example of a quarterback that went to the National Championship Game, Nick Marshall, can run and pass. Might not be the best passing quarterback in the SEC, but he is more than adequate. He however can run and much of the success of Auburn is based on Nick running the football. Tre Mason, great back, but would he be the same back with the same numbers if he did not have Nick Marshall under center? Nope.
We look at our lineup of quarterbacks, they are basically clones of one another, with the exception of one. That tells me that we will continue to stay on our same path, not change anything because that is the way we coach football. Quarterbacks come to Georgia because they feel it gives them a greater chance to enter the NFL. Lots of truth to that, but it begs this question . . . . Are we priming folks for the NFL and not the College National Football Championship? Seems to me that those of us that support Georgia football are being short changed.
Am I suggesting that we run the same offense that Auburn does. Nope. I am saying that there are alternatives to the way we coach. Our playbook has not changed substantially in a very long time. Still working out of a pro set. Nothing wrong with that, except this . . . . Where is the left tackle that the pro set has to have to work? We enter 2014 and don’t have a damn clue about left tackle. I did not say that, the coaches did basically. Where are the grinders on the offensive line that allow the running backs to do much more than they are doing now? We have one in Kublanow, another coming from Lowndes that will play his first year as a freshman. What does that say about recruiting? To me, tells the story.
Takes me to this. Until we get the right coaches in place, and those above the coaches, we will still be looking for a National Championship 30 or 40 years from now.
If you play in the SEC, you must have a defense. Defense with a kicking game. Punting has always been a must in the SEC. Auburn punter did a heck of a job against FSU.
With the changes in the way the game is called on the field, you have to have a head coach that can make changes as the game goes on, not have to go into halftime and rework everything you practiced for prior to the game. There are x amount of wrinkles that any coach can use. For the most part, it is still the same game . . . . Win at your position. That is not being taught in Athens. Complacency is a terrible thing.
Complacency allows top notch high school players to be picked up by the likes of urban meyer. Sad.
Soon the Red Carpet will be rolled out in Athens for the incoming recruits, will be watching. Recruiting for need, right? Have not seen many running backs that like to take on defensive linemen. Just saying.
