The comment about being tired of fans that act like every day is January 2nd 1981, if pointed at this board and its members, I would suggest that southernlover name those folks. That is an open statement pointed at a board not at an individual. You did not misunderstand in my opinion sadlerdawg.
yeah, Buc, I guess I'm just not making the connection between a statement like that and expecting the team to compete on a national level every year.
My last response on this subject and hope it clarifies earlier comments. My original post was intended to take the positives that I saw and hope that UGA can build on them and finish in a respectable manner. I think some responses confused Expectations and Standards. In my opinion there are three categories of UGA fans.
Delirious - Open every season expecting to go undefeated and win a NC (these were the ones I was referencing earlier). I didn't mean to lump anyone on here in that group. Only a responsible self-assessment can do that.
Realistic - Open every season expecting to compete for a conference championship and a rare shot to play for the NC (I fall into this group)
Static - show up in Red and Black, hope beers are cold but can't name more than 4 starters
There is no disputing UGA is a historic program with the research and stats in the last few post prove. However, I believe that some of those stats were been padded during times when conference competition wasn't what it has been for the last 10 - 15 years.
I just pointed Bama out because of their gawdy number of NC's. Someone correctly pointed out most were from a bygone era but they have won 2 in 20 years. UF, 3 in 15 years. LSU, 2 in 10. Those are the kind of standards I hope we can look to in the near future.

fall.
It is certainly where I fall. I want us to be "in the hunt" for a majority of the season.
The last game I had seen when I finally got mad enough to start posting here, and pretty much all
of 2010 were performances that indicated that we were not only NOT in the hunt.. we were still in bed asleep. I wasn't even sure we owned a gun or knew how to load it if we stumbled across it.
Even though the SC game gave some indication that we may have found the gun and the ammo.. I still
have little confidence in our alarm clock working on a regular basis.
God Bless and Go Dawgs

Why?Wartdawg wrote: It's just pretty darn irritating to see fans of the program respond to this talk about
our performance over the past 3 years with "well we don't have very high standards anyway",
and that is how some of those posts have come across.
What makes one fan's opinion more relevant than another's on the subject of standards. We have one consensus NC, two if you count 42, which wasn't consensus. Did we have high standards during the Dooley years, when 6, 7, 8 wins was okay? How long did we suffer Jim Donnan? Ray Goff? IF we had high standards, we never would have suffered Willie Martinez. If we had high standards, we would not have Mike Bobo as OC. The problem is that only (certain) fans have the sack to stand up and point this out, even though it is to the detriment of their perceived standing as a "true fan." The fact of the matter is that, just like patriotism, sometimes you have to speak up against the system, to risk the label of traitor and malcontent in the eyes of those not willing to think deeply enough into the problem to see the ugly baby for what it is. You CANNOT arbitrarily set a standard and say "this is it." You have to have a reasonable chance of actually attaining that standard for it to apply, but the current configuration in Athens couldn't hit a NC with the soles of their feet if it covered the floor. And yet, the current configuration is allowed to persist.
Low standards.

I expect the coaches to have the same expectation.
I know we won't win every game but I expect the head coach to be as angry as I am after a loss.
