....And so begins the off-season spin....

9 years 10 months ago - 9 years 10 months ago #66137 by Buc
dawgs_fans_dad in your post above, last few weeks have been keeping this to myself, but now . . . .

Living in Florida, having watched too many of the things that urban meyer did and did not do, satisfied with what I know to be true.

I have zero respect for urban meyer, and as much as I hate to say this . . . .

Ohio State has gone through three (3) quarterbacks in 2014. All three of the quarterbacks have played big time college football with little experience and now are playing for the National Championship. What does that say for meyer and his quarterbacks. meyer hand picks his quarterbacks has forever.

You said . . . . Just like I think that the table stakes at UGA should be competing for the East EVERY year and winning it MOST years, the UGA QB should be among the top QB's in the SEC most years. Seems like that isn't usually the case. Doesn't make sense.

Truth in the above statement. Allow me this . . . . maybe it DOES make sense. Think about that one.

Regardless of whether richt does it on purpose or just isn't good at player evaluation doesn't make much difference to me. The point is that there are many examples of fans calling for certain players to play, richt dismissing it with some moronic arena comment, then he has to play said player and the fans were right.
richt just isn't up to getting the best players in. As Buc and DFD point out, as much of an offensive mastermind as richt is supposed to be, with the recruits he gets, he should be churning out all SEC qbs year after year, not just game managers with no meaningful experience.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

DFD and Buc, I agree with you both and I have no idea how every X amount of years we end up with a lack luster QB. I was told back in late July that FB was hands down the best QB but somehow he ended up being 3rd on our depth chart??? I think you can blame both CMR and Bobo for the craziness that we've seen at decision making at the QB position. Bobo is gone so maybe half of our problem is gone as well.

I just hope the next OC has the balls to tell CMR what he is really evaluating when he takes a look at Jacob Park because we have something special with that kid! Ramsey could prove me wrong and if he does get a grip on reading the D then he could be a filthy QB but I think he has a long ways to go yet fellows. I have watched both of these kids play in HS against very good competition and to me there is BIG difference between the two and that being that Park knows what he is looking at and Ramsey had cleverly designed pass plays to make his job easy. Like I said in one of my earlier post in re: to Park, I walked away from both games I saw him playing in saying WOW and saying this kid plays just like AM. I think getting a new OC is a blessing in disguise just for the mere fact that he will have an open QB competition battle and he will more than likely not have a pre-judged assumption on any of our QB's. The cream will rise to the top...

I thought this article below was interesting and I agree that there is no way Park doesn't at the least get some playing time next year!

Thanks Shannon...

I don't think Richt doesn't care about winning, and that he does want to win titles. I am 100%
sure he does. I agree though... he doesn't know how.

The only point I have made is he will sit better players if he thinks he needs to send a disciplinary message, and that he does let things like tenure and loyalty taint his decisions.

I am however 100% sure that he thinks what the is doing is what is "best for the team", but he himself has said he sees the collegiate football experience as being about more than just winning. That is not saying he doesn't care about winning, but it is saying there are other things that play into his decisions other than win at all costs.

Whatever the reason.. discipline.. lesson teaching... loyalty.. ALL coaches let those things factor in on their decisions to varying degrees, but I'm 100% sure I disagree with when and
where Richt has done it in some pretty high profile/major impact situations.

He doesn't however sit around thinking of ways to purposely lose because he gets off on defeat, and that's where I objected to the scenario you made up which did unfortunately come in such a manner that it was easy to take as a direct response to me.

Like others have said though... the why is not really as important as just the fact that I feel strongly we don't always have the right player in the right position on the field and depth chart. No one else always has it right all the time, but I see it here with Richt more than I do some of his contemporaries...in situations where it seems like a glaringly bad call.

It's completely fair to say that I personally am not privy to all the information Richt has when making these decisions. I am objective enough to absolutely admit that... but when you look back over the years and all of the mistakes I think we all admit he has made.. why should
I give him any benefit of the doubt? My reply to that is he doesn't deserve it, and he's not getting it from me.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Sorta reminds me of the diametrically opposed images of Captain Christian. Point being, it's rarely the entirety or extreme of one's opinion/viewpoint, rather it's likely found in the muddy middle! What I've gleaned from trekking 14 years through CMR's bog, is what he may want/aspire to be as HC remains now and likely forever will be out of his reach. Redundancy, according to Albert Einstein, is the definition of insanity, when you repeat actions expecting different outcomes!

How many times have we been woefully ill-prepared to field the next QB candidate? Offensive lineman? Defensive End? How many clock-management FUBAR's have we witnessed? How many Richtings?

Whether CMR dreams of NC's is immaterial, as his actions, his redundant skill sets speak volumes to the contrary! I sincerely hope that CMR is able to bring in a quality OC and therein STEP ASIDE, as Buc has often said, and allow those really in the arena the opportunity to coach. Guide and mentor these young men, be the ever tanned faceman of the program, make your $$$, smile for the camera's, provide glorious "down-home, good ol' boy" sound-bytes for the media,....but PLEASE, let those who can, do!

GO DAWGS!!!!

WD, first of all, totally understand your post. But one thing as humans we all tend to do is look at the negatives versus the positives.

For example, many years ago when I took the 6 hour securities industry's exam for my license, when I left NY all I could think about and focus on was the questions I knew I had missed and felt I may have failed the test. Well I didn't think about all the ones I got right, therefore did well on the test etc.

All coaches make mistakes and plenty of them (just look at the bonehead decision Sir Nick made in the Iron Bowl last year....can you imagine if that had happened to CMR???) and as fans I feel like we never consider all the RIGHT things that have been done.

A coach can make 3 boneheaded decisions during a year and 50 right ones but we focus on the boneheaded ones (ok, I understand those cost us chances for a championship but quite possibly the 50 right ones got us in the position to win a championship in the 1st place). Plus same analogy can be used with players being played. No coach gets that perfect either.

I'm ready for change AS WELL AS EVERYBODY because I'm not sure CMR can get us to a NC, just saying no coach is perfect .....and we never "seem" to consider all the things that ARE done right in the program.
