Good read 36869. Lots and lots of spin in the press since college football called it quits for 2013/14.

Reminds me a lot of the young men being recruited. Seems the same applies to coaches as well. Players and coaches going here, there and everywhere. Some deals have been made, but many are still in the hopper.

Do know this . . . . if our head coach returns with a group of defensive coaches in their first year at UGA, he will get roasted from many fronts. He has shown over and over that he does not understand what it takes to make the defense work.

There is someone in Tuscaloosa that does understand both the 4/3 and the 3/4. Has had great results in Tuscaloosa.

What the heck, he was going to take over the Special Teams at one point. Then he was going to get involved in the kicking game. With Mike Bobo running the offense as he has said on numerous occasions, he can turn his full attention to the x's and o's on the defensive side . . . . Yeah, right.

One of the first things that would be guaranteed if Kirby Smart comes on board . . . . top rated player in the State of Georgia, signs, not questions asked.

At this point looking more and more like Lorenzo Carter will play in Tallahassee. A program that has stabilized under their head coach.

Greg McGarity and the head coach dragging their feet. Sad day when the University of Georgia cannot find worthy replacements. However when we look at the way the football program is and has been run under this head coach, not surprising.

Scooby, we just have to disagree....that isn't a comparison. Most hires at SEC schools are people who fit that description.

Some on this board have mentioned Clancy Pendergrasst? I found out that when he took over at DC from M Kiffin, he simplified the defense and they responded (sound like someone in Athens???). He is proven in the NFL more than TG was (several years as a DC, not 1 year like TG.

Maybe not a bad fit?

I just did some comparison between Richt and the former coach Jim Donnan.

Donnan was 40-19 for a .68% winning percentage.
Richt is 126-45 for a .73% winning percentage.

Donnan took over the program at a pretty low point, as Goff had left with the cupboards empty, so let's dismiss
his first season when they went 5-6.

After that... Donnan was 35-13 for a winning percentage of 73%.
Compared to Richt's 73.5%.... Advantage, neither

Donnan was 4-0 in bowl games.... Richt is 2-3 in his last 5 bowl games, 8-5 overall.. advantage Donnan.

During the last 5 years, Richt is winning at a 65% clip... Donnan won at a 68% clip even if you include
that first season where he took over Goff and went 5-6. 73% if you eliminate that one season.

The only real difference is that Richt was able to win 2 SEC titles, the first of which he won with a team
that was half Donnan's players, and the fact that Richt can beat a Georgia Tech team now that Georgia Tech
is in a worse place than it was back then. Let's remember that Georgia Tech team that Donnan couldn't beat
was coached by George O'Leary..... last seen by UGA fans beating Richt's Dawgs with a team from Central
Florida in a humiliating bowl game.

So can we put an end to this myth that Richt took our program from the gutter of college football and rose
it up to pinnacles never before reached?

It's just not accurate if you sit back and look at the numbers.... He's not that much different than Donnan before him who laid the foundation for some of Richt's early success.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Wartdawg, good info. However, I do believe CMR was an upgrade.

First, regardless of how he did it, he has played in 5 SEC title games. Also, he whipped up on the BIG FOUR (AU, Tech, UT and UF) as opposed to Donnan, who had a dismal record.

Also, he did finish #2 and #3 in BCS standings over the years.

I don't think he embezzled and money either:)
