Looking back over our 2013 Season, opening game. Clemson dropped their defensive end into coverage as you describe AD5.
Also the Tampa Bay pro team allows Gerald McCoy to drop into coverage from his defensive tackle position. Many times out of the 3/4.
Little bit like what is being said here, and this is really good reading . . . . any number of ways to confuse the offense as Wartdawg said above. Think I interpreted that right.
One thing that comes to my mind . . . . again . . . . is Nick Saban's way of preparing his football team year after year. Running the 3/4 a lot, his offense practices against this every pad day. That in my way of thinking is preparation. Alabama's offensive line has their set of "tricks" that many teams don't do and don't know how to do. Smart coach that Saban dude. Makes his offensive line do it right or feel the wrath of Saban. Not only does he practice that way, he plays that way. Not afraid to get into a players face when silly mistakes are made. Players continue to make their way to Tuscaloosa, apparently they are receptive to as some refer to him . . . . "Satan" and his methods. Same way of coaching is going on with one of Saban's disciples, Jimbo Fisher and his defensive coordinator who learned much under the Tuscaloosa system.
Why would anyone go to a pay site when they can get "real" football talk on this board. I said that.
Just superior reading provided by knowledgable folks.
