I watch to see the University of Georgia play football, not Mark Richt or anyone else who is coaching.

I understand what is being said, as I too have often said that Richt is a good guy and I would prefer
it if we could succeed with such a man at the helm as opposed to some of lesser moral character. I
don't think however that being a good man gives you a free pass to not do what obviously needs to
be done to give the team the best chance of success. I might be wrong, but I would venture a guess
that WM would still be our DC had there been no pressure put on Richt to make a change. I have little
doubt that Bobo will remain the OC unless Richt is pressured into making a change there.

There is a balance that must be struck between being a good man, and doing what needs to be done to do the job you were hired to do.

This letter states that given time Richt will fix what's wrong, but what's the time table? Another
year? two? three? It can't be open ended.

Just a curiousity question........your next to last sentence about "balance".......would CMR or any other coach doing something underhanded or unscrupulous in order to win and "doing what needs to be done" be ok?.....just curious.

No it would not be okay.

I would add though that having the courage to examine your staff and make tough decisions there
is neither underhanded, nor unscrupulous.

Like it or not, the buck stops with Coach Richt.
The Dooley, Butts comparisons are rather meaningless in the modern era of college football. Failing to succeed is not an option any more.
I will play the devil's advocate and say I will take Coach Saban over Coach Richt any day.

Well put averagedawg. I have known more than one person in my life that was a God fearing man or woman, and that includes me. That however did not promise anyone a "certain station" in life.

One thing I have found to be true in my lifetime . . . . when it does not work, fix it. When you can not fix it, time to take a back seat and let someone that does know how to. . . fix it. Could be that Richt gets this turned around, he however will not last with some of his past "indisgressions" as in hiring friends.

averagedawg, there is no comparison between Richt and Coach Saban when discussing American Football. If the conversation is about who is sitting in the pews, that is a direction that I do not know about.

Buc, We agree.
Georgia Football is bigger than any one man.
I suffered through the Goff years. Never stopped watching my team play the game.

Wlayton, one thing I have come to realize, You and I think very much alike. You would like to see a high profile OC brought in. Me too, only I believe we have a high profile OC, he just refuses to remember you can be a HC and OC.

I go back and watch games from the early Richt era. The thing I thought CMR was so great at was allowing a defense to impose mismatches on themselve, and beating that mismatch with faily simple designed plays. I saw that last Saturday at times. The flare route that IC dropped reminded me much of the Old Richt. Simple call against an all out blitz, that could have picked up some serious yardage. Did you see the replay. IC had 2 blockers for 2 DB's and half the field to operate in. Then, the slant route Troupe dropped. Richt stated in his presser that he had another 15yds after the catch. Nothing more than a quick slant. I remember Fred Gibson taking the same pass 60. Bennett's drop. Maybe we should have kept in on the ground, but none the less, a smash route against the perfect coverage. Ball probably should have been thrown toward the pylon, but regardless, the ball should have been caught. Ask MB. I would bet he would tell you he should catch that ball 100% of the time. It happens. I am not mad at the kids, they are playing hard, and I truly appreciate that. I saw play calling that could have broken the game wide open. We didn't hit them, but we still won by 14. Yeah, Ole Miss is terrible, but so was Colo. last year and we found a way to lose that game. Might get ripped for it, but I also like how our O moved the ball against usc. My thought is that it seems Richt is having a lot more influence on the play calling. Besides Boise, I am not really complaining.

GO DAWGS

On a side note, I watch and support UGA because I love our Dawgs. I like Richt, but I will still be faithful to the Red and Black no matter who is on our sideline.

Here's a curiosity question...

Assume Richt isn't going to really get it turned around as much as most of us want...

Does the alternative to Richt have to be someone underhanded and unscrupulous in order
to get where we want to go?

The letter that began this thread sort of leaned in that direction. It basically said
we need to hang on to Richt because the only alternatives are a Nick Saban type.

I don't buy that.
