Just a curiousity question........your next to last sentence about "balance".......would CMR or any other coach doing something underhanded or unscrupulous in order to win and "doing what needs to be done" be ok?.....just curious.
GREAT question wlayton,
Nice responses by Wartdawg & others. My 2 cents, as a head coach (like ANY other job besides the government) you are paid to perform i.e. produce results. That means WIN in college football & since you literally CAN'T win them all, it is a job that you would expect to maintain even when you experience a few losses (Saban even had 3 losses last year after being preseason #1). I wish our head coach would outwardly emphasize winning a bit more but in the end, I just want more good results than bad results (which we haven't had lately, hence the HOT-seat talk). Regardless, I am totally against a "win at all cost" mentality b/c that implies cheating &/or rule-breaking runs amuck. Like wlayton, I too am convicted that you can WIN & WIN big without cheating! (now that I've looked up pollyanna in the dictionary, maybe I am guilty of being overly optimistic too

GO DAWGS-CONTINUE TO FIND THAT WINNING FORMULA ON SATURDAY!

There's a sports radio host here in Jax that is all about "today's thinking and feeling"......me, me, me.....cheat if it makes you more money.......could care less about sports integrity AT ALL etc etc, you get the picture.
He asked his Auburn (and UM from the past) audience this question........"if AU (UM) cheated to win the NC, do you really care?" You've got that dang trophy!!!!!
His answer was that if his alma mater (ASU) had to cheat to win a NC, he wouldn't care.......just do ANYTHING to win ME a NC.
If that's where our sports priorities are headed, I'm out.

I am questioning his performance.
Like it or not, the buck stops with Coach Richt.
The Dooley, Butts comparisons are rather meaningless in the modern era of college football. Failing to succeed is not an option any more.
I will play the devil's advocate and say I will take Coach Saban over Coach Richt any day.
I will give ya an amen to that....

Is Mark a good man? Without question!...Is he a good coach? IMVHO the answer is no, not by Sec STANDARDS. Perhaps he was at one point in his career, but given his demeanor now, I have no confidence that Mark possesses the desire, the gut wrenching fire brand to compete with Nick, Steve, Les. much less some of the young up-starts that will be eyeballing us in a few weeks!...
The days of Dooley, Paterno and Bowden are long gone. I'll not belabor my point beyond this,...CMR has changed VERY LITTLE since 2000! His coaching style, play calling, play book, type of employee...all the same. This is what you will get, should Mark continue to be our coach. Getting talent to come to UGA has NEVER been a problem...Folks, it ain't the athletes!...If they fire Bobo, they will hire someone like him, or I should say, like CMR!...Look at Grantham...his fire brand sure seems to have been toned down!!!
Nonetheless, The Dawg Nation is NOT one man. I will continue to watch and support my dawgs regardless to the coach....At the same time, hoping for more than mediocre!

These are just a few of the schools that have had major violations. Felt it necessary to post a few.
If Kiffin had remained in Tennessee, would the fan base have acted any different? I seem to remember the UT base thumbing their collective noses at anyone that dared to question Kiffin.
No need for the wlayton's of the football world and other places in society to get out, time to get in. Not like you have not been in. I have seen you waver on this board, I have also wavered many times myself. For those that have been here for any length of time I can write about with certainty as to what they posted on this board.
This thread is what makes this board different than a lot of the one liners and no brainers out there. Another reason that it is special to be able to post here . . . within reason.
The only way you are out is if KD knocks you out, and I am not sure that I would not pay to watch that match . . . . You are going nowhere, along with folks like averagedawg, things will improve.
