Maybe the offensive side of the ball possibly passing him by is a by-product of him not
handling the offense for awhile.

Maybe, just maybe... if he took the offense over again.. maybe he could catch back up
and be innovative once again.

Now, back to what happened to UGA football. I have felt better about watching this team more than I did last year. Have they improved? I don't know yet. I do think they are playing harder, and faster. I don't know if cyclical is the word I would use, but I don't really care who you are, you are going to have down years. I hear Peterson alot. He is a great coach, but honestly, what coach could not win 10 games playing the schedule he does. Now, look at coaches from the power conferences. Look at your so called elite coaches, Stoops, Mack Brown, Carroll, um. They have all had down years. Saban hasn't had one at bama, but he will. I will agree uga football has been on a down slope for the last couple of years, but besides the bsu game, I have like what I have seen. I don't like losing, but I feel we played well against usc. I even like the coaching that game. I know I will be ripped for that, but please don't feel I am fighting for Richt to hang around. Like I said earlier, I am going to see how the rest of the year plays out.

I will say this, and I hope this makes sense. I was not around in the days of UGA dominance. We had some good teams, and some great players, but not the success Richt has had. I never saw a conference championship until Richt. We went 20 years without a SEC title. He has 2. Had he had the same luck as Miles, he would have probably had a shot at a NC. LSU won it with 2 losses.

I will just be honest, I just don't know if I want our HC gone. Something inside me believes he is a good football coach. Won't speak for Bobo. He has some real boneheaded moments.

Not really trying to make an argument for Richt, cause I totally understand where the frustration is coming from. I guess I am just a confused Dawg when it comes to our coaching situation.

GO DAWGS. Take the fight to ole miss, and crush their spirits early and often.

AD5...you make some great points. I definitely agree with the majority of people here that Bobo needs to either be stripped of playcalling duties or let go. As for Richt, I do think he's a great coach, but I also feel like he's hit a point of no return. Granted, he did bring us back to a level of success we hadn't seen in some time, BUT he also did it early in his career when he still had the remnants of old/past coaching staffs and recruiting classes. Unfortunately, since he got to the point where the program was "100% his" it's been a fairly consistent downward spiral.

I'm with AD5 & wlayton regarding our coaching situation. I just don't really know what to do w/CMR until the season plays out.

Buc, I have a feeling you might agree but I'll put it out there: Thomas Davis may well be my all-time favorite Dawg to watch play defense, man he was a vicious hitter (Really enjoyed that video you posted)!

All I know is that I want the Dawgs to start playing smart, hard-nosed football like we did early in CMR's tenure (oh, & to kick some rears & take some names while we're at it)!

GooseDawg78...for me, you just hit the nail on the head. I personally think that part of Richt's problem is that he DOES try too much to be dynamic and innovative. The SEC is not a place to consistently run an overly dynamic/innovative offense. It takes too many "specialized" recruits and players to pull off and the combination of size and speed with SEC defenders is too great for that. Why do you think Urban really ran from Gainesville when Tebow went to the NFL...he KNEW he couldn't run that offense in the SEC unless he had someone like Tebow who, at the college level, (man I hate saying this) is a once in a lifetime type of college QB.

Like you said we need an OC and/or Head Coach who runs a smart, hard-nosed program. I know I just said this in a post yesterday, but I belive the "tried and true" method of consistent winning in the SEC is to pound the rock, stop the other team from doing so, and outplay them on special teams. Spreads, hurry-ups, sprint options, etc. all come and go...smart, hard-nosed offenses are the only ones that seem to "last" in our league.

Some good chatter going on here. Goose, Thomas Davis made a lot of offensive coaches and players look him up when he was wearing the Red and Black. If I were the person hiring and firing at UGA, money would not be the reason Mr. Davis decided not to return. I could see Granham and Davis working together. Crossed fingers something like that comes to pass. We need to put the "Bad" back in "B*d @ss, and Thomas Davis is all that.

Mike Honcho you get a tip of the hat from me on your post, especially the last sentence. I believe that Richt is and always was an offensive coordinator.

As far as Richt being too innovative goes... all I can say is that we did just rack up 42 against what
was supposed to be one of the top defenses in the SEC.

Too innovative does apply to the Boise game as we out smarted ourselves, but I don't know how much
of that was Bobo vs Richt.

I've never really complained much about the style of offense we usually go with... it was just the
play calling within that offense that I sometimes often questioned.

God Bless and Go Dawgs
