Looks like the defense is in great hands.
averagedawg over the years (15 of them) there has always been a lot of excitement. When I look at who and why folks get excited, seems to me it was always about the players. Fine with that.
What the missing ingredient(s) was/were in my mind, the lack of coaching from top to wherever the bottom is. Over the many years seems there was always a problem or problems within the coaching staff. Anyone that thinks the players and fans don't look at such things are pping in the wind.
Not just the coaching staff, most will recall the "red panties/underwear" that was found in the Athletic Director's automobile, found by the law enforcement folks that made the stop. One night stand, don't think so.
Our program has been void of true leadership for many years. Sad thing is, the lack of leadership continued, especially when we look at the past x number of years. Many think it started as early as 2005, others say 2006/2007 and at that point, the year did not matter. Why? Because there was never complete leadership from top to bottom for the entire 15 years.
Will that change? I wager it stopped when those that control the vault in Athens had enough heat put on their backsides to step out and bring change about.
Again for those that follow the media hype, you are easily led and have been for far too long. Like it or not, when Kirby Smart was hired, much of the "stuff" our program has been through comes to an end. The end is as soon as the National Championship Game is history.
We now have a head coach that is both "mellow and rabid". Kirby Smart's hires thus far are impressive. One thing that really impresses me is that Kirby is hiring folks from a lot of different locations. Anyone remember the previous head coach having a problem with hires? I do, and there was a reason for that. Easy to look at player talent and the lack of results from the head coach to improve the talent.
To the "U" I say this . . . . You wanted him, you got him.
Nick Saban in one of the videos posted in this thread said this . . . . Kirby Smart is a great defensive coach, reason for some of that greatness . . . . he also understands how offenses work.
Kirby is ready, and there are many of us that waited a long time for a leader. Football in the Classic City changed in 2015. Thanks for you pounding and continuing to remind the Group that Kirby Smart was the right choice, averagedawg. You have said what needed to be done for years.
