Posts #73 and #74. Both of you have been on that stage. To come to this board and say some of the things that the both of you do, not going to second guess either of you.
Allow me this on mark richt.
If our head coach would do simply what both of you are saying, I would welcome him being the face of the team. He does have influence in the living rooms, especially with Moms and Pops. Think we would agree if that can further our recruiting efforts, don't have a problem. Not one, but I am talking recruiting.
When we look beyond the "honeymoon period" that many are in right now, honeymoons don't last forever. Comes a time when we have to figure out who is going to take out the garbage. By that I mean this . . . . If Pruitt continues to accomplish the "football thingys" that he has done recently, something or someone has to give.
Don't hear it mentioned, but I have looked at the contract offers, meaning years that the folks under Pruitt are obligated. Not looking out that far, three years, maybe? Again, if Pruitt's climb to success continues in the three years, can't see him remaining in Athens. The spread sheet on Pruitt will look too good for other D1 schools to pass over.
Do I believe that the hiring of Pruitt will be harmonious for three years, yes I do. Pruitt and richt are smart enough to know that there is much at stake for the both of them to put a good face on. Saying that, I do not believe after a short time, when the players have their pads on, cleats in the ground that Pruitt and his assistants will have time for friendly chats. Pruitt is in Athens to build a solid defense. This country boy is not one that is without direction. He knows what has to be done. Pruitt also knows that he has talent, would not be in Athens otherwise. Bet the bank on this, Will Friend and his group have lined up and practiced against the defense long enough to be able to say to Pruitt, it's here, a coach that can relate is needed.
averagedawg, I figure at the end of three years, that will be where the rubber meets the road. As you say, there will always be "something".
Wartdawg, you remain on target, that is coming from where I sit. Both of us are saying simply (I think) richt has his limitations, they are evident after 14 years. As you said in this and another thread or two, just do what you do best.
Serious decisions in three years, or very close to that. Thing that bothers me about that is what Mike Bobo said . . . . never felt that richt would leave. richt is now again in familiar territory, he is a second stringer at best when it comes to on field coaching. I said that, and believe it.
