I truly believe what I am about to type.
Believe that there have been many offensive and defensive linemen (and others) to play in Athens that did not have the full benefit of being coached up. Said before, I used coach'em up many times in closing. It was said for a reason. About the middle of the 2013 Season I realized that was not the case. Easily seen if watching what was coming out of Athens. Some speak about Vanderbilt, and that is truthful, but that was far from the beginning.
Young men come in from high school, and there are a few that are miles ahead of others on the team because of one thing or another beside talent. That is coaching. There are really good football coaches in high school, and of course like college, there are some that don't know how to teach the entire game.
Once a head coach understands he has a good group of assistants under him, results on the positive side show themselves sooner rather than later.
Jeremy Pruitt understands that he needs a good group of assistants. He also knows who those assistants are. That alone will make our defense better. How much better . . . . that depends on the coaching.
Too many things have changed in a short time for me not to believe many or most of those changes are because of Pruitt. I keep looking at what our head coach said after Pruitt's hiring. Said he is "energized". That one word tells me all I need to know about our program. It has a chance to reach new heights, but I still have to say this . . . . richt, stay the hell out of the way. Be the head coach for the press, and the "group", leave the "coaching up" to those that understand how that is accomplished.
