Well, reading a lot of the forums, it appears richt and the group have gotten what they wanted. A satisfied delusional fan base that is now convinced we'll win it all next year. grantham will be allowed to coach at L'ville, so we will see what he's actually capable of, and whoever is our DC will be neutered and made to work within richt's guidelines. I think most players perform better if they are somewhat afraid of their staff than if they swim and eat watermelon with their staff. Just sayin...

But as long as the majority of the fan base is happy, that should ensure enough excuses to give richt smooth sailing til his contract is up. Looking forward to our 2014 NC.

Offer Kirby whatever it takes, including the head coaching position when Richt hangs it, hopefully sooner than later.
Maybe Kirby could make Richt go out a winner.

averagedawg, might be another "happening" for our football team. Truthfully, would not be floored if Kirby Smart came home.

One thing for sure . . . . the "Group" in Athens are keenly aware that most Georgia football folks want Kirby.

Sometimes the brush has to be cleared in order to chop the tree down. Meaning a set time for our head coach to hang it up. McGarity was flooded with emails concerning football in Athens, had to do something. Say again, cannot mess with the head coach at this point.

If Kirby Smart were to come to Athens, there would have to be a guarantee made to him about the head coaching position. If he should decide to come, that guarantee will have been made.

Soon Kirby is going to leave Nick Saban, and I believe the word "soon" is correct. Kirby's name is high on many lists, and at some point "soon" he leaves Tuscaloosa. Nick has that 7 year deal, does not mean he will stay, but at this point the folks in Alabama have calmed down from the Texas thingy. Kirby Smart ain't spending 7 more years in Tuscaloosa.

If Kirby Smart returned to Athens, don't believe that the head coach would stay until 2017. Kirby Smart has moved too far up the pecking order to "hang around".

Kirby returning would make McGarity and the "Group" happy. Reason . . . . revenues would go up, and that is the only thing that matters to those on Mahogany Row.

Time is right to chop the tree down, some of the brush has been removed.

On this grantham thing.

He has steadily moved down the ladder with his lack of teaching.

Fired in Cleveland.
Jones did not want him in Dallas any longer.
Pulled a power play visiting the Saints.

There have been a couple of chances under Nick Saban on the defensive side. One problem, grantham finds it very difficult working for anyone.

Have read a couple of oohs and aahs from the players in Athens, none that seem too pissed off.

Not in disagreement with those that say our head coach chopped his brassies.

Still don't see where grantham accomplished a great deal in Athens. One thing for sure, the NFL did not come calling. grantham at this point is going to do everything in his power to make money. Nothing wrong with that either. He sure as hell did not earn his money at Georgia from his recruiting efforts.

Petrino will put points on the board as head coach at Louisville. That is a good thing for grantham, needs all the damn help he can get.

Read on another blog that Georgia will stay in the 3/4. If that is the case, all of the past recruiting efforts point to players that were recruited to play in that defense. Kirby Smart has been running the 3/4 in Tuscaloosa since 2008. Successfully running it I might add.

grantham did not come close to running what I would call a successful defense with all of the talent Georgia had in his four years as defensive coordinator. It was time for him to take his egostistical ass up the road. Like growl said, maybe Petrino will give him a lift on his bike.

Personally, I'm not saying whether grantham is good or not. I'm saying I just don't know. Same as I've been noticing with bobo for the last couple of years. richt is such a bad coach, I just don't know how much of their "coaching" is their own abilities, or purely a result of richt forcing them to play under his rules. Our defenses have not known how to tackle for about 8 years now, have shown up uninspired for games for about 8 years now, and should be nicknamed the "champagne defense" as many times as they've been toasted in the secondary for about 8 years now. Is it our different defensive coaches all lacking in the same skill sets, or is it something bigger?

The bigger problem remains in Athens, but any change is welcome. At least I can look forward
to something being changed over there.

While I do think that the biggest problem still remains, I can not say that MR neutering Grantham
was the cause of all of our problems. I want someone to explain to me how this neutering made it
so that the safeties didn't know that they are responsible for covering the outside X and Y receivers
once they go beyond 15 yards downfield and are released by the corners.

I just can't believe someone was willing to pay Grantham that amount of money, but then again it's Louisville
who also just rehired one of the slimiest caricatures in all of college football.

sadlerdawg, from where I sit it is something bigger.

One thing I have come to realize is this . . . . Georgia's head coach is a "face" that those in charge like representing UGA. It is nothing more than politics.

Head coach does not coach any more. He, as has been discussed here has taken to the Bobby Bowden way of being a head coach. Not going into the good man BS again. Head coach at Georgia is very much like VD was. When they know the press is coming, they put on a show, and they are very good at it.

One thing that sticks out to me is the head coach talking about continuity. What a laugh. Continuity, that is Kirby Smart coaching under Nick Saban. Scared Nick Saban big time when Georgia offered Kirby a while back. Nick had a sit down with Kirby as we all know. Reasons for that, there are several.

First off, you put Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo into South Georgia and elsewhere, they become the dynamic duo. Who knows, maybe Nick Saban does not have all of those trophies. Nick Saban does not get on his knees for anyone, unless it was Kirby Smart. Kirby is still in Tuscaloosa, but not for long.

The University of Georgia has an opportunity to escape this mediocre track the program is on under the current head coach. Small opening, but it is an opening.

You make a very good point about "playing under the head coaches rules". Has to be some of that. Think that the coaches in Tuscaloosa play under Nick Saban's rules? Coaches at FSU definitely play under Jimbo Fisher's rules.

So what is missing in Athens? A head coach that can't seem to hire the right assistants. Comes down on the fans with the "arena talk". Head coach is not a mensa candidate for certain. The next hire will give many of us a clearer picture of where our program is. Some think they know already, some could be barking up a tree.

mark richt is in the same situation that Mack Brown "was in". Folks in Austin wised up and moved the chess pieces around and came up with Charlie Strong. Problem in Athens, they don't know how to play chess. JMO.
