DAWGtm, you are dead on, in my opinion.

One thing we have on the defensive side of the ball is more than one good defensive lineman sitting on the bench. I have wanted that fourth man with his hand in the dirt for a while.

grantham was playing get after the quarterback. Agree with that, but coaches in the SEC know that the three man front can be run on. Don't have to call selected games from the past, all or most of us know what I am talking about.

Believe it was said a year ago that a 4-2-5 defense is what the talent in Athens is suited for. AllDawgs5 and a couple of others mentioned that in the past week or two. I cross my fingers that the 4-2-5 is played a lot in 2014.

Will there be improvement, I would bet the farm on it. sadlerdawg says some improvement. First off I/we don't know who the Defensive Coordinator will be.

Do know this . . . . there is talent (again) in Athens. grantham leaving will have no effect on 2014. These players for the most part have played in the 4 man front. That being the case, as sadlerdawg said in this thread . . . . no excuses.

Can't put my finger on this, but think that Coach Chris Wilson will get "results" from those already wearing the Red and Black. I also believe they will come to play. If the defense plays, not waving arms, the offense will be hard to handle.

Hutson Mason has to move into his role as quarterback seamlessly. He has waited for this opportunity for a long time. Now it is "showtime". Mike Bobo will run the football a lot this year if we get the offensive line to step up. Will never take my eyes off of the offensive line, starts right there.

DAWGtm wrote: I'm listening Buc You think Kirby might leave I know he didn't last time but I'm not sure how cohesive it will be at Bama with kiffin there

DAWGtm, Nick Saban will not allow anything or anyone to get in his way. When it comes to Kirby Smart, I go back to this.

Saban said to Kirby, don't make a lateral move. In truth what he was saying . . . . Don't leave me Kirby, I need you. Nick Saban has not said that to anyone else on his staff. Several have come and gone, Nick does not try to stop them. Supposedly the Alabama defensive line coach was going to Louisville, but that did not happen. grantham picked up the million dollar crumbs a year for five years.

One thing a good CEO knows . . . . Always knows where his right hand man/person is. Alabama football is "not" all about Nick Saban alone. Kirby Smart might be biding his time. As some like myself hope, there will be a time for Kirby Smart to come home and lead the Red and Black. Might not happen, but after seeing grantham leave, maybe there are some things in the works that brings Kirby home.

Sorry, your question was whether or not Kirby and Lane can co-exist. Yep. Lane is going to learn a couple of things in Tuscaloosa that only the "master" can teach. Lane Kiffin knows that "hugging up" to Nick Saban is his path to return to college football. Me thinks.

ogredawg, hit the thank you button. Still not ready to concede Mike Bobo. Just me. Don't give me too much spit. I am seeing some things that are not all bad. The other guy, head coach, not a problem.

Guarantee you that if there was some way Kirby Smart were to take over in Athens, Mike Bobo would be the offensive coordinator. JMO.

Here's why this doesn't excite me nearly as much as some folks--we all saw how grantham coached when he first got here, as far as his attitude, and how he coaches now. He was neutered, and I have no doubt it was richt's doing. It is going to be the same with whatever DC we get. Some coaches use different methods to get players to perform, which sometimes involve players getting their feelings hurt. richt does not like nor allow "kid's" feelings to get hurt in his presence. He thinks it's his saintly duty to protect them.
I have ragged on bobo quite a bit over the years, but not as much recently because I would like to see what he could do without richt's influence. I don't think he's as much the problem as richt is forcing him to be.
Anyway, richt will control whoever is hired and the program will be more of the same old, same old, I fear.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

36869, you were also one that has called for the 4-2-5. I have great faith in your thoughts. You know football. Have read a couple of threads that you and AllDawgs5 have come to the same conclusions. Makes for a better board with folks that do understand.

36869, if Chris Wilson is named Defensive Coordinator, said earlier in this thread, we will see some serious recruiting and young men attending Georgia.

I really want to see Bryan McClendon get his due. If grantham is worth a million bucks a year with the lack of recruiting he did for us, where does that place Bryan McClendon in the pecking order. Folks in Athens better get their heads out of the area where the Sun does not shine. McClendon is as valuable to us as Kirby Smart is to Nick Saban. Good recruiters do not grow on trees. Will watch that situation for sure.

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY. grantham work that 5 hour radius "thingy" in the Louisville area, you know, the one that you did not fulfill in Athens.
