Lakatos, defensive back coach leaves. Garner, defensive line coach left. Both apparently for different reasons. Appears to be some truth to the feelings of us out here that something is not right on that side of the ball.
Started to make a comment yesterday about the meeting between McGarity and the head coach. Read somewhere that McGarity said he and the head coach meet every Thursday. I would think that the two leaders of the money maker would stay in close contact, and above all else keep the program moving forward. Just curious . . . . does McGarity meet with the other head coaches of different sports every week or just on call. Doubt that. Shows just how valuable the football program is to the "Group".
Not really surprising that Lakatos is leaving, happens at every university when there is or seems to be a failure in the area coached. While I know that everything that is going on between the AD and the head coach, the meeting yesterday certainly had some importance, both field wise and media wise. This situation has been known for some time between the two leaders, was not an overnight happening. They had been alerted.
Guess there is little doubt in grantham's mind that he is being watched closely and the line is getting shorter. Hard to give up close to a million dollars a year. His time spent in Athens has been long enough to give many an idea of whether our defensive coordinator can deliver the goods.
Appears to me that the snipping at the heels is getting too close to McGarity. Will be interesting to see if the Thursday meetings continue between him and the head coach. Three or four running the football team are in the cross hairs. Those of us outside of the arena are not settling for the lack of progress from the Athletic Director on down.
Fool some of the people some of the time, can't fool all of the people, all of the time.
