Buc, you just hit the nail on the head with Grantham! Two people that I hate to listen to talk their BS, Obama and Grantham. They both are never wrong and they have egos the size of Texas! Even my wife says that Grantham comes across as pompous and cocky when he speaks...

Another thought on some of Grantham's thoughts.

Seems he has played up the fact we will be playing another "spread offense". It's not like we have not faced the spread before or different variations of the spread.

It has been said that is the advantage Auburn has had over those on their schedule this season. Takes me to this . . . . Auburn was not running the spread last season when they were getting their butts kicked, not just us, most teams that they played. You can get your butt kicked without a lot of points being scored either way.

Just happens that a coaching change has made a difference in the number of points that this years Auburn team scores. Has also been said that Gus Malzahn was the offensive coach for Gene Chizik, therefore the players were somewhat familiar with the system. That is a crock of spit. The young men playing in Malzahn's system this season did not know Gus Malzahn's first name when he first coached at Auburn. If, "if" they were on campus, they sure as heck were not getting any playing time, much less dressing out.

What has happened at Auburn is pretty simple. They have been "taught" the system that Gus runs, and they are pretty effective to this point. If Gus can teach the offense a complicated motion offense, with "wrinkles", why is it that Grantham can't get his players to get lined up in "his" system. That occurs much too often for me to believe that the players understand what Grantham wants.

What was being said on this board by some folks that have a pretty good understanding of football 101? By the latter part of this season, the defense should be hitting on all cylinders. Remember the "fast/speed talk that was being used here? I am one that falls in that category.

One thing I do know, we have some speedy players on defense, problem is they can't use that speed because they simply don't understand what Grantham is after. Add to that, don't think that Grantham is capable of teaching them in a way that they can use their God given talents. I would say this, take a look at App State in the first half of last Saturday's game. Grantham on video said that we adjusted and figured it out at halftime. Had lots of time prior to halftime in the game to put "his defensive package" in place . . . . what? Am I being told that my defensive coordinator has to have the players in the locker room at halftime to address stopping App State?

Said earlier in this post that the score does not always tell the true story of how a game is won or lost. Grantham has grinned/smiled on video and pointed to App State and 6 points. Game plan that way this week Todd Grantham, you will see a reversal of the App State/Georgia score.

Chris Wilson, you are the lone shining star on the defensive staff. Can only judge what I see. Maybe next season we see a defensive coordinator change, along with . . . .

Don't mind talking to myself, have much more to say that should have been said previously.

I said it during and immediately after the game. We didn't adjust to stop App St, although imagining that we had to break down at halftime how TG was getting out coached in the 1st half seems appropriate.

No matter the humor in that situation, it's just not completely accurate. App St got wore down physically, especially up front where we have a pretty deep D line rotation. App St kept putting itself in trouble with penalties on early downs and with dropped passes.

We could have run our most basic D set on every single play for the entire game, and I sincerely think the game would have played out the same.
App St gets wore down by a deeper, stronger, faster opponent. Deeper, stronger, faster opponent looks better as the game goes on as 2-7 App St shows why they are 2-7.

So sorry TG... the same result would have happened with WM or anyone else on our sideline.

Don't you worry though TG...If you ever out coach anyone, we'll notice without you having to tell us.
We have some people on this site that know what they see on a football field. You go right ahead though and keep trying to convince those who think gap responsibilty is something you let the dentist handle... maybe you can convince them.

;)

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Wartdawg, the following paragragh that you posted was my next shot over the bow. Good on you, direct hit sir.

Not unusual at all for a team to begin to make a lot of mistakes when they tire out. Brings into play holding calls and such. Much like dropping a cylinder on an automobile.

Another point that Gus Malzahn speaks to in the video. Gets a question from someone about Georgia's defense. Malzahn quick to say that Georgia has athletes on the defense that are fast, athletic and run to the football. Certain amount of "coach speak" in that statement. Never would he say that there is some "confusion" on the defense that we can use in our game plan.

One thing that is true . . . . We do have fast, athletic players and they do run to the ball. Problem I see with that, they have to be all of the above because Grantham's system has them behind at this point. They are chasing rather than reacting. This is Todd Grantham's defense. Mark Richt said so.
