Early Georgia -- Auburn Thoughts

What really concerns me is that if this game does become a physical smash mouth game with huge hits is our luck with this targeting rule. Every call we have had go on us with targeting has been BS! Corey Moore, Ray Drew and Ramik Wilson all were basically screwed. I love seeing those hits escpecially legally made and God forbid we have the refs again from the Vandy game(not saying thats where the game lost)but am saying that the BS in that game was just to much to swallow on the targeting side of things. I do believe this is going to be a close game and that honestly Nick Marshall gets a couple big plays but in my heart of hearts I believe G Smith will be a leader and Floyd and Drew have a beast game and either run NM to death laterally from sideline to sideline or bury him into the ground. I see the dawgs winning but I definitely see a close game...just my 2 cents...

Really hope that Bennett is not too banged up. What a player he has been for Georgia.

This is a man that understands college football, especially SEC football. Listen to him talk on the video below. No BS, one of the best defensive coaches in the country. Would hire him in a heart beat.

Not a lot of coach speak from Ellis, just puts it out there, like some on this board.

Have this question for the board. How many hires did Gus Malzahn make when he was chosen as head coach? Meaning coaches for the football team. Did he pick all of the defensive coaches, or did Ellis Johnson do that? Seem to remember Malzahn supposedly traveling to Athens and having a sit down with Garner.

Curious. Does lead me to another point later on.

Edit: Looking around, thought this post picked up elsewhere was interesting. Posted December of 2012. Posted by an Auburn fan.

This is a "Grade B" hire .... It's a hire of convience. Not sure Malzahn can compete on the field against Richt, Miles, Saban, Spurrier, Muschamp and Franklin; and that should be a measuring stick when hiring a coach at a school like Auburn .... Furthermore, not sure he can go toe-to-toe with Saban in recruiting. At the end of the day, this is a "B" hire and won't put Auburn anywhere beyond "average" within the conference.

Can't always be right.

Another thing that Malzahn is doing that he picked up from Saban, hiring high school coaches. Reason . . . . they are close to the young football players, makes recruiting top talent a bit easier.

Don't know where all of this will end, will be real interesting when M&M come on board the SEC. Everything will change. Many of the current coaches want to be employed in the SEC, will get a lot of "press" which means more money. Again, just saying.

If Gurley is at 80% or better, I like our chances.
I see the difference in this game as who plays tougher up front.

Sure hope the offensive line comes to play averagedawg. Facing off with Garner's defensive front. Appears that Garner took a couple of young players with him to Auburn.

Still feel good about Chris Wilson, say again, his area of coaching on the defense has looked the best, and for sure #47 is playing like a man possessed. Might be that Ray Drew will show Garner why he should have played last season.

After reading the article in the link below, also the posts from those that read the article, leads me to this.

Had Nick Marshall not gotten into a sticky situation in Athens, he would be a part of our defensive backfield. Todd Grantham has said that since Nick Marshall has led Auburn to where they are now. What does that say to me again, realize that I am repeating myself. Never would Nick Marshall have lined up under center. Just happens to be the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after the Tennessee game.

Now what I hear coming out of Grantham's mouth is just how good Nick Marshall is. Grantham, there are many on campus right now playing in "your defensive backfield" that have just as much talent. Had Nick Marshall remained in Athens, he would be just as "confused" as the young men you are "coaching(?)" now. Don't come out now and tell us about you seeing the "immense talent" that Nick Marshall had. You are so damn full of yourself, some of us have figured that out. You are not on the same level with "many" defensive coordinators in college football, you know that, we "now" know that. Already trying to cover your butt.

Grantham, you like to act like a big, bad coordinator, why is it that you are no longer in the NFL? From where I sit, have seen "nothing" to "shout" about from your efforts in your fourth year.

Much more to be said, and I will between now and Saturday.
