sflanagan21, so right about growing up fast. This is a very unusual year in my opinion. What makes it different is what you and others have posted here.
More talent in Athens that I have seen in many years, maybe or probably ever. This is the group that has a tremendous amount of pressure on them from the opening whistle. We are asking this group, especially the defense to come together and climb up that ladder another step. This particular step has to be much quicker, simple reason, starting off with two top ten football teams.
Might add this also, and it probably applies to me more than some. I have mentioned patience on this board more than one time. That patience has to be shown by the fans, as you say, there are going to be mistakes.
Go a bit further, if you are right about the first quarter. I do know that you just put the thought out that these puppies had to mature quickly. If this group on the defense can come out of this game with a win, in my mind it can change a lot of things in the future.
How? All any of us need to do is look at our recruiting board for 2014. Impressive might not be the right word, but the group that say they are coming will be pushing next year to get playing time, just like the group we will start the game with against Clemson.
Finally we have gotten ourselves to the point or damn close to what Alabama does every year. Yes, talking about reloading, not rebuilding. I truly believe that we now understand that quarterbacks and running backs NEED offensive linemen with a talent level above average.
Same can be said about the defensive line and backers. Strong 7 man front, sure opens up opportunities for great defensive back and safety play.
Will stop with this. There have been several videos since the first of the year with players that have been on campus for a while, with some game experience. Almost to a man every one of the "elders" have raved about the incoming freshmen. They talk about speed and learning quickly. 2014 group will come with the same intentions. I like our direction and our coaching staff. Say again, hope we can keep the entire group together. That goes back to the opening of this post . . . . PATIENCE.
Good night folks, catch up with you tomorrow, Good Lord Willing.
Edit: Gillette, was still typing my post when I finished, there you are. Good read, change that, good football read. We seem to be on the same page.
Go Dawgs, coach'em up!
