Time to start the analysis . . .

Everyone seems to talk of the two schools of thought of playing two QB's in a game.

First. is that the offense needs consistency. One signal caller so that the unit will perform as one. kind of like the well-oiled machine analogy.

Second, that playing two QB's will give offense more spark and give defense more to think about. Especially when the QB is a running threat.

I used to fall into the first camp. Wanted one QB for unity. Now I am of the mind that a second QB can come into the game occasionally and have an impact. I recall when Tebow first came into game at UF. Everyone in the stadium knew he was going to run. Problem was that no one could stop him. As Tebow became starter, he was able to sharpen his throwing skills (although still limited) and become a better all-around QB.

Faton Batua is ahead of the curve in that respect. Would love to see this young man running a true wishbone offense. Call me crazy, but...

Wishbone??...Really?? Imo, I don't think a wishbone offense will work in the SEC. D's in the SEC are too good. Look what we've done to GT lately on D.

TN Dawg sign me up for your program.

Realize that we have a young pup coming into our program that is very highly rated, Brice Ramsey 6-3, 195 lbs. From all reports he fits the offense that Mike Bobo and Mark Richt want to run. Nothing wrong with that, seems to be what they feel comfortable with.

We had another quarterback Matthew Stafford that without a doubt has one of the best arms to come out of college and play pro football. Number one draft choice for the Lions, not bad at all. When I look back at Stafford's days in Athens, he made some throws that not many are capable of. Also when I look back, I saw Matthew on his back a lot, much like what I saw happen to AM in the game against Auburn two seasons back.

The defenses in the SEC are guided for the most part by coaches that pick up on tendencies and talent level real quick. AM dang near got killed in the game against Auburn, surprised me when he got up after a couple of the hits. AM is tough and most of us recognize that. Many of the hits that AM has taken that scare me are of the "pocket" variety and I remember him being reminded that he was playing in a "pocket" protected offense, not to be free lancing. I will bet the farm that BVG, SS, Muschamp and others will be looking for "any" quarterback that works strictly from the pocket.

Some on the board have voiced their opinion about the offensive line we are starting with this season. Can't in all candor disagree with some of the posts that I have read pertaining to the offensive line. Maybe that is the reason that much of this thread is pointed at the offensive coaching schemes that seem to have been with us forever. If we continue to "stick" with our "same game plan this season" that we have used for many years, I will say this . . . . . I am glad that our schedule does not include for example an Alabama or LSU. I have said this a couple of times, don't think that Florida is going to be anything but tough on the defensive side, they have speed, power and depth.

Quarterbacks can only take so many of the "tough hits" before they begin to dance and throw the pigskin in areas that only cause problems. Anyone that is a member of this board or reads this board knows that I have been and still am a AM backer. One thing that I have noticed, and especially last season . . . . AM did show "nervous footwork".

I believe that much could be accomplished by working with the offensive game plan. Might keep our quarterback from taking those hits that stay in the "gray matter" long after they get up from the hit. Young men on the defense delivering these hits are not 150 pounders and they are not 5'10". Football has changed and all of us can agree on that, just from a size and speed and coaching view point.

Mark Richt said again since the close of last season, Mike Bobo is my Offensive Coordinator. Contracts have been signed by the "Big Three" on the campus in Athens . . . McGarity, Richt, Grantham. This is my team, as it has always been and I am pulling for each and every player and coach. I don't think it is wrong for me to evaluate what I think I see, reason for that is very simple. I really want these coaches that recruit these young men to come out of their shell if need be. When I look at wins and losses, especially losses to marginal teams, I become a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type personality.

OK, going to be a very interesting season. Talent resides in Athens. Here is hoping that we are not as Vanilla as we have been for the past few years. Give SS, BVG and Muschamp something to think about and chew on. :)

I remember when Coach Richt would relieve Greene and put in Shockley.
My only problem with that approach was in the 2004 Tn game.
Greene had a terrible game. Shockley played well that game but Richt left Greene in for most of the game.
I am a big David Greene fan but I still feel DJ could have won that game.
Tough being a coach.

averagedawg, will always feel that DJ is one of those that I mentioned above. Talent on the bench. Happens too much on too many teams. ;)

If lately includes 2008 against GT, that wasn't a lot of fun to watch.
