Time to start the analysis . . .

You are certainly on target with that comment - a couple of "former" UGA coaches in the "minor" sports could tell us something about that this year, huh?

Believe Mark Richt said that he was going to get involved with Special Teams again. I like that, apparently he saw a problem.

Your point is well taken AD5, somewhere in this thread I do believe that managing the game, called "team play" was posted.

Not entirely off the subject of the conversations going on in here, from CTG:

"Reserving judgment

Grantham sounds very Saban-esque when the conversation turns to Georgia’s 2012 defense. The Bulldogs return 10 full- or part-time starters from a unit that finished fifth in the nation in total defense a year ago. But Grantham is very careful to not let the cart get in front of the horse when asked to handicap the team’s ability.

“I think we have good players,” he said. “But the way I’ve always looked at it and this is what I’ve told our guys, ‘Never forget where you come from.’ The reason people are talking about us now is basically because of the things we did last year. But this time last year, they weren’t talking about us.

"I told them, ‘The way they’re going to talk about you in the future is for what you do now.’ So what’s really important is what we do now. Once the 2012 season kicks off, this team has no wins and no losses. It’s what we do in the next 12 weeks that will determine this team’s success.”

I like the sound of that. That's also very "Erk-escue". B)

Believe we averaged over 150yds in SEC play. Not a terrible number. Don't know how Bama faired rushing against MSU. Do know they scored 24pts against them and LSU scored 19. We scored 24. Our offensive production was actually better in SEC games than anyone in the league.

After really thinking about last year, with the exception of BSU, was Bobo really that bad? Did we lose games because of playing calling? I believe special teams and forcing balld in spots it has no business going, were the real problem after the BSU game.

GO DAWGS

Guess watching that MSU D versus our OL in person made a big negative impressions on me. In the 2nd half it looked like 1's versus 2's.

Certainly agree with you on the rest. Giving up cheap TD's, managing the game/bad decisions by AM really killed us in a couple of our losses, like you mentioned. Not a big fan of Bobo but actually did feel he called the majority of games pretty well. Imo, you are soooo correct....in the SEC, you really need to establish the run up inside. Just have to have patience and keep pounding (guess that's where I visualized the weakness in our OL versus MSU.....couldn't come close to doing it).

Don't get me wrong - I'm all in favor of "pounding the rock inside". And when you have Herschel Walker, who can carry the ball 35 times a game, that makes even more sense. However - why not put TWO backs in the backfield to add some possibilities to the play you are about to run? Give defenses a different look. The example of Brown and Williams at Abuurn that wlayton gave is a great one. IC and KM are both capable of running pretty darned fast in open field - why not at least make that a POSSIBILITY on any given play? With Todd Gurley coming to town, and with Ken Malcolm starting to show a little aptitude for the position - the possibilities start opening up - like wlayton said - you can actually play two backs at a time and keep FRESH LEGS on the sideline with their helmet up and a gatorade in one hand! (And in the case of IC, he could keep an ice pack on that hang nail - ew - it's a bad one!)

I'm a big fan of Z Ogletree, and I'm sure he brings a load. But sometimes it seems like a LB might think twice about committing to the run if he sees a speedster trotting out to the side prior to the snap. Or he may have to wait just a split second on a run if there is a possibility that this could be a play action fake and somebody might catch a short route out of the backfield?

I don't know - pay no attention to me - Bobo Gotta Go Go sure doesn't pay any attention to me. But when I see us line up with Zander and IC behind Murray under center, I start calling for the other teams safeties to start sneaking up towards the line, and I'm cheering for US! You know what is about to happen - something between the tackles or a draw, usually on 3rd and really long too. We had one game last year where I thought the play calling was coming from somebody other than Bobo, and that was, ironically, against Abuurn.

I can think of a couple of games last year where the O-Line kind of smelled bad. Boise State made us look like we had never seen a football before. Usually, by the time AM had the ball in his hands, a D-lineman had a QB in HIS hands. And LSU ate us up pretty good in the second half. I tell you, if they would have just shortened the game to 30 minutes, we may have won the MNC last year. And wlayton is right about MSU. That old, foul, smelly odor was emanating from the general direction of our offensive line of scrimmage in the second half. "Gave up" were two words that came to mind, especially after AM performed his second charitable act.

Great discussion!
