Time to start the analysis . . .

Hate starting a new thread, but it's dead around here, and I have to have SOME kind of football talk, so here goes an analysis of this season's opponents. First up: Buffalo.

Okay, so there's really not much to "analyze" about Buffalo. However, someone put 'em on the schedule, so here we go . . .

They went 3-9 last year. Ouch. Being generous, they might have added two more games to the win total if the ball had bounced a little better for them.

Strengths - not many. QB Chaz Anderson passed for a respectable 2454 yards, half of which was between Alex Neutz and Marcus Rivers, his top receivers. Both receivers are back, and both are no shorter that 6'4". Chaz is back again this year, hoping to improve on 11 TDs versus 9 interceptions - another OUCH. On a MUCH brighter note for the Buffalo Bulls is their RB, Branden Oliver. This guy amassed 1395 yards on 306 touches, scoring a team high 13 TDs. Those stats, folks are QUITE respectable, even more so when you consider that this team is pathetic. In modern day football, carrying the ball 306 times pretty much means you ARE the offense. The second leading rusher on the team was - get this - Chaz Anderson.

Weaknesses - pretty much everything else. This team got blown out by Tennessee (although, to be fair, we've laid that same egg before - just not last year), and lost to even Ball State. Okay, that's enough about them for now. Good thing they are on the schedule, since we will be down a couple of DBs and a LB or two for opening day.

My prediction -

UGA 41 (or whatever Richt wants to score), Buffalo 3 (if Grantham is feeling merciful).

If anything this game should be a good time to do some tweeking and tuning up in a real game situation for some of the weak points on the offense, defense and especially the sore point for the Dawgs over the last couple of years, Special Teams. I know that usually you hope to have these things dialed up by the time you get to the first game, but for the Dawgs that has'nt necessarilly been happening and has cost us gravely. Its going to be a great time to try some testy field goals, use different folks on punt coverage and generally get a good feel for who plays well under real game conditions. I think a great time for a game like this one to come along, a great time to coach 'em up. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing growl. This is a perfect game for 2nd and 3rd stringers to get some play time so the coaches can see what they (Players) can do in a game.

On the "contrary" side (marginal).....since Mizzou will be next, I say play the 1's until they have established great "rythm and coordination" before even considering putting in the 3's. I would play the 1's at least through most of the 3rd Qtr. I would want to be convinced these guys were all on the same page both offensively and defensively, blocking schemes, right D alignments, player discipline on THEIR assignments, etc etc before subsituting in a big way.

Work the 1's, make sure they perform under game conditions....... get them ready for Mizzou.

yep with you 100% on that. Timing and blocking schemes for the OL is of the upmost importance with this new group. Play the 1's until the 4th qtr. for sure.
