Edit: Too much talent to remain on the same path. Bothers me when I see SEC ready players on the sideline. Our defensive changed course when CTG replaced WM. Time for a change on the other side of the ball. Give Steve Spurrier something to think about. Just thoughts . . . .
Lets not forget the toss sweep with the speed these backs have it would work.Put Gurley and Marshall in the back field at the same time it would be hard to handle both can block pretty good both have good hands.

Why have colleges abandoned the two back set? Especially when both of them have HANDS? And JETS? You can line up with a split set and motion into a full blown spread if you want. IC, even though made of fine crystal china, can still sprint with the best of 'em. DBs would have to respect the play action WAY more if you lined up like that. I can't understand why we NEVER use that type of set. For that matter, NOBODY does. And here you have TWO or sometimes THREE or even FOUR backs who are genuine D1 starters.
I'm with you on the lack of imagination in play calling. Change can be a GOOD THING. "Fill-in-the-name-of-your-favorite-offensive-coordinator-here" gotta GO GO!

thriller.....look no further than Auburn back when they kept Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams in a 2 back set. Man, that was VERY difficult to defend. Not only can we do the 2 man set, we have a stable of backs that can rotate in that 2 back set as well.

And yet this fall we will see AM lining up under center on first and ten, with a fullback and a tailback behind him. Three other D1 quality TBs will be watching with their helmets up, drinking a gatorade. He'll "fake" to the FB and hand off to the TB off right guard. Defenses will turn a 4-3 into a 4-5 in a split second, because all the LBs and safeties will run up to the line, knowing who is about to have the ball. Two yard gain. On second down we'll do the same thing to the left side, one yard loss. On third down we'll be in a shot gun with one back to block and throw it 40 yards, incomplete. Punt.
On the other hand, we could have IC and KM side by side behind AM under center, shift to KM in motion out wide - safety knows there's jets out there now, besides just MM. But IC is still back there - what to do. LB knows he can't keep up with IC or KM - gotta have help over the top in case this goes to a play action fake. The big bad D that was going to be up on the line of scrimmage needs to sit back a little and let this unfold before committing now. Many possibilities for what happens next.
Lots of D coordinators will be glad to see that familiar ol' Bobo still holding onto the same ol' clip board this fall. <sigh>

In every sport there are those that come along and change the game plan. Muhammad Ali, used the rope-a-dope to beat one or two that he might have lost to. There are many examples across the wide spectrum of sports.
Not saying get away from the I-Formation, just need to make folks like Steve Spurrier and others aware of the fact that times and formations can change. You said it, just get away from the normal run of the mill football, talent is there, what about the coaching . . . . I also understand that some young players pick a certain school because of the type offense that is employed. Once upon a time it was "team" not "I". Anyone that thinks that running the football is out, check Saban and his trophies. Just saying . . . .
