Coaching, Recruiting Thoughts

ogredawg, a lot.

I look at the picture this way. How is it that Saban and his forces march into Georgia and sign these highly rated players. Rated highly because they play the game at a high level.

So, why is it that we cannot move across the state line and sign high profile players from Alabama. I understand that Ben Jones did a heck of a job and he is from Alabama. Name a handful of others.

Saban comes into the State of Georgia every year and "cherry picks" and the reason is clear to me. Saban plays for more than 10 wins a year. That is the reason that his 2013 recruiting class is running over at the edges.

The Alabama team is disciplined for one reason, they have a head coach that is disciplined and demands total involvement from his coaches.

While Saban might be kicking young men to the curb, won't argue that, we at UGA don't seem to be able to fill our scholarships, has nothing to do with money, UGA has money, has to do with no leadership.

Picked the following link up from the AJC this morning. Adams was being discussed in this thread yesterday, found one paragraph interesting when compared to a couple of the posts in this thread and part of the back and forth.

President Adams said:
“We may never get anything that the fans feel perfectly happy about, but one of my major concerns all along has been that I didn’t think we were paying enough attention to the fans who foot the bill for all this, and I think that realization is beginning to come home.”

The link that I referred to above is in the AJC this mornings edition with Adams' thoughts.

On the subject of BAMA vs. UGA for Ramsey......

If Ramsey is the "real deal", he will have aspirations for the NFL. I do feel our passing game and the fact MS is doing so well with the Lions (not to leave out DJ and DG got to the next level) will be a large consideration in Ramsey's decision. BAMA uses their QB's as a game manager and doesn't ask them to do too much, which is perfectly fine and obviously works for them but Ramsey may not want to ONLY be a "game manager" (I know, I know, you have to manage the game). Believe we have the edge over BAMA if BR wants to go to the next level.

Oh, also believe Bobo DOES have a big play in this recruitment of Ramsey......may not be a good OC but do believe he develops QB's pretty darn well.

I will leave it alone after this comment, but we beat uf, ut, aub, and gt, and there is this much hating on the current staff. You win and lose as a team. I saw improvement. Want to see much improvement on ST's. IMO, we lose 2 games if we don't have breakdowns in the kicking game.

I leave recruiting alone. There is so much outside of what people see and behind closed doors that goes on. Really hard to even imagine. As I have said before, as long as CMR never gets busted for serious violations, I am ok. I will say this, I honestly believe that CMR's spiritual walk might damage his recruiting. Parents love it, however that unfortunately is not always the focus of 18 year olds. Being recruited not long ago, you would be surprised about what might go on. Going to say other things other than Saban and football might be luring kids. Heard from a source who played for the man. Just saying.

Agree Wlayton, if I were a QB, no way I go play for Saban. I don't look at Saban battling CMR for defensive players. Defense kids realize they won't be spending much time with CMR. That is more of a CTG vs Kirby deal to me. HC are just the faces. The relationships developed are up to position coaches and coordinators. Seen so many kids say that they chose a school because of the relationship that they had with the position coach.

BTW, pretty sure we went after a lot of OL this year. CMR is trying to bring them in. He might have been late to acknowledge them, but I am not much for making a man continue to pay for mistakes he is trying to correct.

Josh Chapman might disagree with you on the Saban luring him to 'Bama thing, AD5.
Mark Barron too.
I think many of the best high school players see playing for Saban as a ticket to a first round draft pick.
Wouldn't be surprised to see 4 of this year's defensive bunch go in the first round.

Average, sure many will disagree about Saban. Sure every story is different. I am not too familar with Josh Chapman other than he was a big part in bama's success.

AD5, Read the Oct 10, 2011 article in Sports Illustrated on Saban and the Alabama defense.
