Coaching, Recruiting Thoughts

How I want to put it is we have a first class university in a first class conference.
We have an elite level tradition (look it up.. over the past 32 years since 1980, we have
a better record than 'Bama and LSU). We attract elite level talent; the NFL is loaded with
ex Dawgs at all positions. Yet somehow we haven't been able to win against an elite opponent since we beat UF back in 2007. Even that season when I think we were the most
talented team in the country at the end of the year, we found a way to blow it by losing
at home to SC and getting blown out by UT.

However I want to put it is that we amassed that fantastic 10-4 record this season against 8 FBS schools with a combined record of 48-53 (the best being Abuurn and Tech at 8-5) and
then we whooped up on 1 FCS school and 1 other that really should be categorized as
FCS level. Then as happy as I was with that... I watched us blow a bowl game in large
part due to what in my opinion was buffoonery by our HC and/or OC. Then of course we
had this recruiting season to follow it up where we I guess are holding back scholarships
for walk-ons while 'Bama is turning away commitments.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

One question, for those who will answer.
Do you think there are talented offensive linemen that we didn't recruit, signed elsewhere, who would have jumped at a chance to play at Georgia?
I would say yes. We got some talented kids this year but I think you gotta fill your quota with some of the lesser rated recruits. That requires hours of evaluating raw talent, a never ending job.

Hopefully a few OL will come our way, either via Juco or diamond in the rough finds that will be eligible to play this year and we can all get back to football with a vengeance. A question keeps coming to me,that I would like to pose to other posters. If CMR was to quit today, who would we hire as head coach right away to take UGA to the NC within the next couple of years?

Kirby Smart, said it before.
Or Todd Grantham.

Yes, and recruiting isn't just about how many 4 or 5 star recruits you get. It's also about finding some gems who were only 2 or 3 star guys. It's no big deal evaluating based on Rivals star system... they've already done it for you.

Right on the already done.

Don't know where Coach Friend would have been evaluated (star wise) he however was not a big time name that I am aware of, which means nothing, there are two or three things that I don't know. There are some here that can pick me up when I falter. TIC. However if he was a 2 or 3 star caliber offensive lineman back in his time, shows that he had something else working for him, brains and the ability to teach at the D1 level.

averagedawg, think that the apple cart really got turned over after the 6-7 season and especially the UCF game in Memphis. Hot seat talk and everything else that 18 year olds take into consideration had a huge effect on our program. If there is blame to be cast on 6-7, where does that land. I have relived that UCF game many times over and still get a bit on edge.

Also, somewhere in the UGA sports hierarchy someone dropped the ball on Chester Brown. Folks down this way, I live 45 miles from the UCF campus, are excited over someone at UGA tripping over their shoe laces over a self imposed regulation. Someone asked earlier why he could play at UCF, it is because the admission rules at UCF are different.

Kid from Buford went to LSU, pretty close to Athens and he chose LSU, makes one wonder. Me anyway.
