If I take being a fan out of the equation and just look at it from an analytical stand-point, I'd say being in the top 5 in the SEC of LITERALLY every major offensive category is a pretty good accomplishment.
Let the bashing begin...
Don't think there needs to be any bashing, unless you are looking for that.
Go back to your post and maybe ask youself this question . . . . why are we so dependent on playing first timers at the positions you speak of. Should we not have planned for that during the recruiting process more than a year or two back. Yes, everyone has injuries, however some have better plans than others.
If I am the head coach or the offensive coordinator, my job is larger than trying to get the best back or wide receiver. The wins and losses start in the offensive and defensive lines. You don't protect, you take a knee. Sound familiar . . . .
Mark Richt put out the call for a running back, risking NCAA problems . . . . did he not just sign one of the best this past year according to the talking heads, think so. No crystal balls, but if we ever expect to be "all that" better do as Coach Grantham suggested, give me someone to play the nose. That seemed to work out for the D side. Deployment saved our country from bad things many years ago because "some" of the leaders had a plan.
I enjoy posting with you, one of the reasons, you go past one line statements that don't move the cursor one way or the other.
Thanks Buc...to be honest with you, I'm just frustrated with some of the posts in this particular thread, just like I'm sure others are frustrated with some of mine. Some comments have been made that would lead a reader to believe that a National Championship is something you run to Wal-Mart to pick up on your way home from the office. Hundreds...LITERALLY HUNDREDS of things have to happen in any given season to even reach the National Title game, let alone win it. Do I think Richt has done everything right since he was hired? Not at all...but do I think he's the reason we haven't won a National Championship in the last 11 years. An even more emphatic, not at all. He's fielded better teams and given us more realistic shots at getting there than anyone since our last Title win. There's been so many circumstances; coaches coming and going, players coming and going, AD's coming and going, that have changed the direction of this program. Through it all, CMR has allowed us to have one losing season and call it a product of the schedule if you want, I'd say 10 wins is a pretty good bounce back from last season.
Even Saban and Miles, who could apparently field an 8th grade B-team and still win a BCS Championship, have had their struggles. How do you think fans were feeling after Saban went 7-6, then bounced back with 10 wins only to lose in the SEC Championship AND the Sugar Bowl? How do you think fans were feeling after Miles went 8-5 and 9-4 in consecutive seasons?
I know you can't control the thoughts/actions of the masses...I just hope that some people realize that a lot of the frustration they're feeling this week isn't as much a reflection of Richt as a coach as it is just the natural reaction of seeing their team squander a bowl win.
