Question for the Guru's,...

It seems that way now during the hopefully waning days of the reign of Bobo.

I somehow still want to blame the lack of an O-line on him. I'm sure he's heavily involved
in who we recruit. Especially during the past couple of years when he was the BMOC regarding
the offense.

My point is only that at one time we had an identity. CMR just needs to be determined to
get it back.

A lot of the folks down this way seem to think that Avery Young will commit to Florida.

Thanks for the info. on Avery Young wlayton! No surprise, Bama, Florida, & Auburn are always after the cream of the Oline crop. No suprise either who the last 3 BCS champs were.

Wartdawg, excellent post brother! You're spot on, when CMR called the plays (even though I remember being happy when he gave up play calling duties-I'll admit it) we sure did have a single identity & you nailed it! I too have no problem with that identity of a power I formation w/a deadly play action passing attack. Like I said earlier, I believe it is a proven formula for winning ball games (especially in the SEC).

Now I do believe that some creativity is necessary (more so these days than in yesteryears) ala Oregon, Boise St., & I gotta give Auburn credit for some of their O's playcalling. But still, look at LSU & Bama this year. Pretty darn simple schemes they run, they just run em' really well; just like we did during the Greene/Shockley years.

Honestly, I think Bobo was unfortunate in a way because when he took over play calling duties we had a pretty solid OL, a cannon armed QB, & a stud RB. So he didn't have to necessary call the best plays, our players just got the job done on talent alone. But now, we don't have those same studs at his disposal (we got plenty of talent but not what he had in 2007-2008) & he still seems a bit pass happy (especially deep ball happy) to me. Guess it should come as no surprise since Bobo is a former QB & he played for some UGA teams that did nothing but air it out week after week. Regardless, I'm just going to try & stop beating this dead horse.

We've been winning as of late & I am very pleased with the progress (especially on defense). Also, I have been more pleased with the play calling since the Boise game. Still, I just hope CMR gets CMB's attention (maybe he's starting to make progress) or finds a highly-qualified replacement before it's too late for him too. I haven't quite given up on Bobo just yet (have to see what happens the rest of the way) & I'm still hopeful that with McGarity's commitment to excellence (in all sports) that Coach Richt will get us back in contention for the SEC Title...this season! Guess, I'm just feeling optimistic today...hopefully I'm not being too much of a "sunshine pumper"-Hello sadlerdawg???

It's okay to be happy when Richt first turned over the play calling duties.

We often say it couldn't get any worse, but obviously it could.. and did.

I wasn't completely satisfied with Richt's play calling either at the time, but we did have more of an
identity. Now we've seen even worse play calling, and a complete loss of identity to boot.

I mean lets be honest here.. We went from saying "Geesh why did you make that play call?" to
"WHAT IS THAT ON THE FIELD WEARING OUR UNIFORMS????"

At least it's gotten better recently. I almost recognize us again.

from what CMR wants to what actually happens on the field" post.

I think Richt does have an offensive identity. I seem to recall us running out of the I, and
having a really effective play action passing game. Nothing wrong with that identity at all.

Then something happened: That something being the reins of the offense were turned over to
Mike Bobo.

Sadly, Richt is the one that made that call, so I guess I'm not really defending Richt at all. :S

We lost it the deeper and deeper we got into the reign of Bobo, which I compare to the reign of Nero although admittedly I am at a loss to know exactly what he was fiddling with while our legacy burned. Check that, I don't really want to know the answer to that question. I know what you're saying right
now.. that I should have used the reign of Caligula, but that comparison has been reserved for
the reign of Damon Evans, what with the panties and all that.

But I digress. Back to the topic at hand, which is obviously BUC saying my post was funny, no
matter what anyone else says. This of course leads to the next question.. which is: Who the
heck is it that says it WASN'T FUNNY??? I want names. Preferably in MS Excel format.

Anyway, CMR had an offensive identity once. I just wish he would get off his duff and get rid of the
guy that lost it for him.

GREAT post wartdawg...makes me think about a comment from Richt after the game where he basically said he didn't like the playcalling in the 4th quarter of the TN game. You're the stinkin' head coach, if you don't like it...TAKE OVER!!! Like wlayton said in his post, unfortunately we do have to use the pass to open up the run game with our current O-line play, BUT, going back to Richt's true identity is a great way to do it. Slants, screens, and quick TE outs mixed in with interior runs from the I formation is a great way to open up the field for the deep play action game.
