Don't think he will even try and go the pro route. Of course, making that statement, he has some time left to grow under another/different offensive coordinator. Did I say that? :)

Aside for the earliest of CMR's seasons, which happen to coincide with Donnan recruits, Van Gorder coaching AND CMR's most successful periods, would you NOT say this is where Mark has FAILED?...

Oh man, I think I'm about to open a can of worms here....

It's been debated (to death?) here about the future of Mark Richt at Georgia. It will be hard to do, but I will stand by this at the end of the year even if we win out, win the SEC, etc....MARK RICHT WILL NEVER HAVE "ELITE LEVEL" SUCCESS IN THE SEC AND GEORGIA DESERVES ELITE LEVEL COACHING.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a fine coach, but his whole offensive philosophy is wrong for the SEC. His style is finesse...you can't do that in the SEC. Teams in the SEC live and die by line play. In the ACC, Pac-whatever it is, et al, you can finesse your way through line play with zone blocking schemes, and smaller, but quicker linemen. Personally, I don't think you can do that in the SEC...opposing linemen (on both sides of the ball) are too big and too fast for that. The way of the SEC is to get the biggest, toughest, meanest SOB's you can find, line them up in the trenches, and watch them BEAT opponents into submission...usually on the ground first.

Let me put it this way...I personally think that Richt could have done the same thing with the talent at Boise State the last few years that Peterson has because that team and it's regular opponents are better suited for flash and finesse. Can't get away with that in the SEC...the combination of size and speed is too great. The mindset in the SEC has to be "pound it on the ground first, get in their head and intimidate them with size/strength/aggressiveness, get them on their heels THEN go for the jugular with the vertical pass game. Richt seems to want to do things the other way around.

Mike, I agree with a lot of what you have said, however I do not agree with that last post. Richt tries to pound the rock. UGA has run the football just as many times per game as anyone else in this league. I think he runs a pro-style offense which wants to set up the passing game by running. Hence, the constant play action passes. ( I will note that you have to actually establish a consistant running game before they work:laugh: )

Richt has the biggest OL in the nation at any level. He wants big lineman. I thought we were very close to seeing an elite SEC offense in the ut game. take bama and lsu for instance. Yes, the pound the rock, and pound the rock. Then go for the homerun. I saw that Sat night. Only problem is, we didn't hit ours. Watch the lsu/fla game if you haven't. fu wanted to crowd line of scrimmage, lee threw the deep ball for a quick score. That gets in d coordinators heads. Now, they are guessing. You have to hit the deep ball.

I will also say this about CMR, quite a few of his losses have had nothing to do with a lack of offense. Maybe lack of keeping the football, but the offense was moving the ball extremely well. Defense is where it starts in this league, and ours is getting pretty dang close to being at that level.

I have always been very "subtle" with "some" of my thoughts. Richt is on a roll right now, but the season is not over. The only downfall that I can see, and if I am allowed to quote a couple or three folks on this board . . . . "Fire Richt If He Does Not Win In JAX." Or, finishes with less than an acceptable W-L record.

Straight stuff . . . we can be half a football team or, make improvements on the offensive side. How many young backs are going to come our way like IC? I am also aware of future hopefuls and those we hope commit to the Red and Black.

Anyone on this board that thinks Richt is home free, take a deep breath, let us all look at the record at the end of this season, and . . . . where this football team is and "why" we are there.

"Why" can go two ways, I hope that we run the table. Do I honestly think so . . . . . Auburn scares me even though it is a "Home Game". I will always have "scary thoughts" until we figure out how to beat Florida in JAX.

NC_Dawg, you are one of those folks that sit at the Black Jack table and "stir" the pot. I also like that a lot. Don't bring my hash marks into the game, you have been here for a longer period than this old fart. sadlerdawg was and is a Marine, Buc is a "Swabbie". Get that straight, young man. :)
