Question for the Guru's,...

I think any evaluation of AM must be tempered with the fact that he is still just a sophomore.
He has a terrible offensive line in front of him, and questionable play calling in back of him.

I know he has missed some open receivers and made some bad reads this season, but that can
happen to a young kid whose offensive line have led him to develop happy feet. Even when
he has ample time, his normal mechanics and his read progressions can be affected as he
has no idea when he takes the snap if he will have time, or if he will get crushed from
the backside as soon as he sets up. Plus as noted by many.. he's just a second year player.
There is often a bit of a sophomore slump.

JTIII didn't have anything there to develop. He was a good kid with a UGA legacy, but never
starter talent.

Joe Cox was pretty average as well, and totally unable to carry a team that was in a state
of disarray.

Stafford was the only guy with real top level potential, until our current crop.

Comparatively speaking, both AM and MS have had similar experiences relating to their careers at UGA. I believe we should look objectively at AM, as that he is making frosh errors that he should not, at this point in his development.

Good question!...For me, I set the bar with QB's like David Greene and Eric Zeier! While I believe Matthew Stafford had huge potential, I felt like he was coached up more FOR the NFL than FOR the Dawgs. MS always seemed disconnected from the "team" concept when leadership was called for...

I agree with the opinions regarding JTIII and Cox, I just believe they, very much like Hutson Mason, wheren't/aren't being given the reps they should...Perhaps that might have made a difference in their individual talent gaps???....Is this not a coaching issue???...

NC_Dawg......bad english on my part. I was referring to "unlike others" as in other seniors that were very average (or less) in JC and JTIII and soon to be Hutson Mason.....my prediction a few weeks back that he may never start (unless injury to AM) because AM will start two more years then Ramsey will take over after a redshirt year....he's a player, can't wait to see him in Athens.

Obviously Stafford was a huge talent for us, but in my mind he was never a "dawg" he was a very talented high school QB who's parents thought Mark Richt could help get ready for the NFL. He's competitive like anyone, but is was never about SEC/NAT'l Championships with Stafford, it was about draft position for the NFL.

Overall, I think Richt is phenomenal at developing QB talent. Ask 120 college QB's who's footwork, release, mechanices they admire the most and 105 of them will tell you Aaron Murray, the other 15 will say Kellen Moore. Wouldn've said the same thing about DJ and, believe it or not, a lot would have praised Joe Cox for his mechanics too. It's not what Richt does with QB's that's the problem...it's what he does with the linemen that protect his QB's that gets him in trouble. We will NEVER see AM's full potential until he has a solid line to play behind.

Sadler, I could see Joe maybe being better given more than one year. He did make some nice plays for the Dawgs.

NC Dawg, I don't know about the reps. I would hope HM is getting a bunch of reps in practice, but I don't know. He is a play away, and usually 2's get just as many reps as 1's. I have seen where many would like to see him played more. I think that just depends on what type of game it is.

Mike, AM would be better with better O Line play. He will also get better with experience.

Excellent point!! Same can be said for Stafford, who was never really afforded the protection that other QB's have enjoyed. BTW: I complete agree with your assessment of MS. For me, Matthew was a disappointment...He never became part of what COULD have made us great again...sadly!

Ahhhh, yes Brice will certainly add an element of intrigue, particularly when you consider we'll have Christain LeMay already in the mix!!!....And it begins again?!?!?!....See where I'm going with this???

I agree with Mike Honcho. I have a LOT of knocks on CMR, most glaringly his obstinate support of certain coordinators, past and present, whose performances left/leave much to be desired. However, I can't knock his QB development. To wit:

1. David Greene was not at all coached up by Donnan. That was Richt all the way. Greene's inability to adjust to the pros was not Richt's fault. Blame the Seahawks or Greene, if anyone. But his record at UGA was nearly immaculate.
2. Shockley, to me, showed near genius on the part of Richt in QB development. Shockley was NOT a pro QB, but we got "pro-like" production from him. Before the season that year, I was cringing at the thought of Shockley at QB, but he produced. The Falcons had no such luck with him.
3. Stafford is a natural talent. Look how long he has been out of the game in Detroit, and yet he steps in with his freakish throwing ability. Amazing, throwing off his back foot with a LB in his face and flicking it 50 yards to the other FREAK, Megatron. I think we were pretty much just dumb luck away from winning a NC with him and Moreno.
4. Cox is another guy who Richt pumped life into, like Shockley. wlayton is correct - average QB, but I don't blame our lack of success on HIM.
5. AM is doing pretty good. MAYBE a bit of a sophomore slump, but then again, anyone would slump a little after losing AJ.

In summary, I blame Richt for MANY things, mostly lackadaisical effort, poor play calling from his OC and lack of intensity in his players, but I do NOT blame him for poor QB development.
