Question for the Guru's,...

Which is EVERYONE herein!! LOL...Everyone knows by now that I'm not a huge supporter of CMR, and believe the program will only achieve continued mediocrity with him at the helm. That being said, I would like for everyone to look objectively at our QB's under the CMR reign. Taking account for the fact that CMR is recognized as a prominent leader in the development of QB talent, and fold in the fact that he's hired a former UGA QB star as his OC, how would you rate their job since the days of Shockley?

For the sake of discussion, you can include David Greene, but since DG was a Donnan hold over, I'm fine with beginning with DJ. I'm particularly interested in your perceptions on how they; CMR and BoBo, have handled the talent development. JT III, Joe Cox, Matthew Stafford,...all fair game.

FTR:...I'm SHOCKED that our "leadership" has consistently had ample to HUGE talent under center and we've consistently been.....underwhelming!...I'm VERY interested to hear everyone's opinion of A. Murray, who has been, for me, a huge disappointment!

Thoughts??

Joe Cox is irrelevent because he was never going to be more than an average college QB anyway.

Matthew Stafford.....obviously a pro style QB....believe he always had the natural ability to make it to the NFL......didn't need physical coaching, just the mental side. Guess the NFL thought he was "coached up" enough....1st player taken. The NFL ain't stupid. He's finally got players around him at Detroit and he's 5-0....'nuff said about MS.

DJ......great talent that imo didn't mature mentally as quickly as David Greene, therefore he sat on the bench. Once he matured he played lights out. Made it to the NFL with no success.....Vick type with less arm and less speed. At 6' you had better have smarts, great arm or mobility with great arm. Imo, he was at 75% in all 3 areas.

Yes, I agree Wlayton, and I would throw JT in the same category as Joe Cox. He was never going to be a starting QB. Stafford was a stud for us, and is a stud in the league. You don't end up the No.1 pick without good coaching and good numbers. David Greene red shirted under Donnan if I am correct. Richt got him as a redshirt frosh I am thinking, but I could be wrong. When he finished his career, I believe he was also the NCAA's most winningest QB.

I think AM's had a great year last year for a first year starter in the SEC. Compare what he did his first year with the likes of other SEC greats. Think you would be pretty surprised where AM would end up on that list. Played well enough last year to be named preseason All SEC. He has made some bad decisions this year, but he is still a pup.

My question for you would be, what would you consider a successful QB?

Forgot about AM.....few growing pains but his numbers speak for themselves.

He's a winner, very competitive and most importantly....he's a leader that hates to lose. He's just getting started...not like he's a Senior, still has a lot to learn but unlike others, he will learn it.

I agree for the most part with you guys (wlayton and AD5) that the coaches have done a pretty decent job of developing QB talent. I'm not really sure where knock on Joe Cox is coming from, though. I think he just got stuck behind a more talented qb in Stafford and never really had the chance to develop. He went to Independence High here in NC and won two state titles, never lost a game, and broke several of Chris Leak's records, so IMO the potential was there. Had he come to UGA at a time when he could have played 3 or 4 years, I think he would have been very impressive. I definitely think he could have been more than just an average QB.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

Comparatively speaking, both AM and MS have had similar experiences relating to their careers at UGA. I believe we should look objectively at AM, as that he is making frosh errors that he should not, at this point in his development.

Good question!...For me, I set the bar with QB's like David Greene and Eric Zeier! While I believe Matthew Stafford had huge potential, I felt like he was coached up more FOR the NFL than FOR the Dawgs. MS always seemed disconnected from the "team" concept when leadership was called for...

I agree with the opinions regarding JTIII and Cox, I just believe they, very much like Hutson Mason, wheren't/aren't being given the reps they should...Perhaps that might have made a difference in their individual talent gaps???....Is this not a coaching issue???...
