Improvement Really ?

Sadler, never said inexperienced players couldn't make plays. They are just a lot more likely to make mistakes. AM did it last year. He had some growing pains. Can you imagine what kind of year he would have had with Durham and Green? He is still having some growing pains. You can't replace a AJ Green with a committee. Sorry, I hate admitting that cause I am a team guy, but AJ Green was the best receiver I have seen.

I am not going to complain with the touches IC is seeing either. I think they are bringing him along well. 20-25 touches a game is pretty good. I agree Wart and Sadler, I like the running back committe, but mainly because IC is the head of the committee. He is a SEC caliber feature back.

Wart and Wlayton, the points on recruiting, I will never defend CMR for that. If people wanted to complain all day about what CMR and staff have done in recruiting, I would never say a word. Besides last year, he did a mediocre job at best for a 3 year span. I saw where you brought up the rankings, what are those rankings when you also include the players that have left the team for whatever reason. Not trying to provide a defense against what you are saying because I agree with coaches dropping the ball in recruitment. I am just curious to see what the OL rankings would be with those losses.

I also believe if you give us bama's o-line, we would be a much better offense.

I watched the game against bama game against uf, and wondered what their offense was doing the 3rd quarter. That play calling could have definitely been dissected. You aren't going to dial up the perfect play every time. I think our play calling gets more exposed due to inconsistent, and below average o line play.

But it is what it is, coaches drop the ball in recruiting, better pick it up with coaching. Get that line up to par.

Journey back to 2009 and the Kentucky debacle. Shortly after that game, this article appeared
courtesy of The Bleacher Report. I cut out the stuff about the defense.. WM is gone.. water
under the bridge, but look at what the writer had to say about Bobo, half time adjustments, and
the state of our offense in general..

"This past weekend Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks and his staff schooled the Bulldog staff during halftime. While Georgia’s offense ran successful toss sweeps and bootleg passes, the Kentucky coaches, I have to assume, were busy taking notes and looking for ways to counter Georgia’s offense. In fact, I am sure that the Wildcat coaches were able to pick up one or more keys to Georgia’s offensive plays. I know that I did. During the half, while Kentucky’s coaches were coaching the defense and giving keys to the plays that had hurt them in the first half, I suppose our coaches were patting players on the backs and drinking sports drinks. I will give you the keys that I saw and the negative consequences for our Dawgs in just a moment. Halftime is over and so down by multiple scores, Kentucky kicks off and forces a turnover; can’t blame the Georgia players or coaches for a great hit. I can blame the Georgia DC for not coming up with something to keep the Cats for scoring. I can blame the Georgia special teams’ coaches for not teaching better ball security. Turnovers are a large problem at Georgia. Anyway, Kentucky scores and the Dawgs are now facing a renewed foe. Question is how will UGA ready the offense to continue marching up and down the field just as the offense did in the first half? I can tell you that Georgia made no adjustments that I noticed. Kentucky made adjustments: recall when Georgia successfully ran bootlegs and toss sweeps in the first half? Kentucky spied the blocking scheme used by Georgia on both plays; thus, Georgia’s two best plays are now no more. How so? On the toss sweep, the Georgia off-side offensive lineman did not block the defensive end or linebacker nearest him—the off-side lineman broke a path straight to an interior backer, ignoring the defensive end. The defensive end will normally make a read on all plays away from him so that he is not set up for a cut-back play. Like most competent offensive coordinators, all good plays have companion plays with varied blocking assignments and alignments to keep the defense honest. Not Georgia. So when Joe Cox turned to make a pitch early in the third quarter, the off-side Kentucky defensive player shot straight towards Cox and deflected the pitch. Do you ever recall any QB having a toss deflected by an off-side defensive player? As for the bootleg pass plays that worked so well in the first half, I am not sure what happened because the Georgia offense seem to be shut down by the second half adjustments made by the Kentucky defensive coaches. Mike Bobo is not a bad coach. Mike Bobo is an INEXPERIENCED OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR TRAINING while ON THE JOB IN ATHENS, GEORGIA. Mike Bobo will make a fine high school head coach. Mike Bobo has not business calling plays for the University of Georgia. Very few times do you see Georgia put together a complete game? "

So here we sit... in 2011 talking about the exact same thing.. How our offense gets turned off
in the second half. I understand our line issues this season, but funny how we saw the exact
same thing was happening in 2009.

The writer concludes with this...

"Mark Richt has reached his UGA nadir and it is all downhill for the program at this point. It is time for Mark Richt to leave or to be fired and to take his coaches with him, save Rodney Garner. I would rather offer the job to Derek Dooley at LaTech before suffering another unproductive season of football under Mark Richt. I have no confidence in Mark Richt to make the hard decisions:

· Change defensive coordinators and philosophy (Kirby Smart? Will Muschamp?)

· Hire a new Strength and Conditioning coach with a winning philosophy

· Hire an offensive coordinator without ties to Florida State

· Hire the best Special Teams coach available

I know how sick all of you must feel—and I the same as you. And I apologize for taking so long to explain what most of you already know. It is my assessment that Mark Richt should be fired. The University of Georgia is a very high profile job and will attract many qualified coaches. This time, maybe the University will not hire the first person that is interviewed but will instead allow several fine coaches to make a pitch to bring greatness to UGA and to take the University of Georgia program to where it deserves to be and should be every single year---a threat to win the Southeastern Conference and play for the National Championship."

Wow, I missed that story before....... that same article could apply to 2010 and 2011.

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

wlayton..

I wasn't saying you were twisting anything.

I know I quoted your comment on Samuel when I started my post, but the twisting part did not refer to you.

I was referring to those that want to defend Richt by talking about our O-line and young
players. To those people I would say that the players available to us are the responsibility
of the coaches as well. Specifically the O-line where we've seemingly been thin for forever.

Just to clarify that.. the twisting it part was not in reference to you.

AD5 - I respect the opinion of all Dawg fans.. and you've made some good points. I just think
there are some defending Richt by listing a lot of excuses. Excuses that are often dropped
right back in the lap of either him or Bobo in terms of responsibility.

And I didn't expect Samuel or Thomas to break out, but they are serviceable enough to sub for Crowell, and that's always been Richt's MO. I wasn't saying the TE's haven't been used--I was again, answering your question about what I expected.

I think RS had marginal success against MSU due to his running style. He never looks up for holes just runs straight into line. In second half when O line was being pushed back, RS just bulled his way ahead. IC was trying to pick holes that were not there. CT has few good runs that were breakouts around tackle if I recall.

You are right, TEs are not being used enough but that is because they are needed for protection too much. I would like to see AM roll out and hit OC on a drag route every once in a while.

What's really disheartening for me is I try really hard to go into each game looking for a
reason to be optimistic about CMR. I would much rather talk about what we did right instead of
continuing to harp on the offensive coaching.

I think I have a tumor on my brain that makes me look for the negative even when we get the W.

I have decided to name this tumor Bobo. I'm not sure I'll be right again until it's cut out.

I appreciate it wart, and I am not really trying to make any excuses for Richt in recruiting. He has dropped the ball, misevaluated talent, or whatever the reasoning is. You want to rip him a new one for that everyday, please go ahead. I agree.

I am only defending the play calling because to be honest, I don't think it has been totally terrible. Sadly, probably bobo's best year in my opinion. Seen a lot of balls hit WR's in the hands and not be completed.
