Believe your are right about MB should have been redshirted. My contact told me before that MB was and is still having trouble learning all aspects of the system. A redshirt would have bought some time and eventually he will "get it". He played a little more the last half of the season so evidently he's getting acclimated and more comfortable with what his assignments are now.

Easy to give Richt the credit for that, but Lumpkin and Brown spent quite a bit of time on the IR. Not really Richt's fault. That is where I have a problem. If you are going to blame Richt for the lack of success a player has, then you also have to give him credit for guys like Green, Moreno, Stafford, MM, Pope, Durham for the year he is having, Charles, and the list could go on. Not every kid gets it. Doesn't mean the coach is not coaching. Look at Brantley. Many kids flop, and it doesn't mean it is the fault of a coach.

Lattimore was great no doubt, but that kind of makes my point. Why isn't Crowell thinking about going to SC? Why isn't one RB in the top 10,actually top 25, in the country even considering SC? I mean they were competing for the SEC championship, it should be a cake walk to get one of the top RB's in the country to put SC in their top 3. Who knows they may get one of the top guys, but I am guessing they won't. While bama has 2 unbelievable RB's, but because of PT, Crowell is still strongly considering them. It is the same philosophy that Carroll had with the trojan men. That Meyer had. That Saban has. Recruits know by watching this year that playing time is not going to happen at that position until Lattimore is gone. My 2nd point, unless Lattimore gets injured or in some serious trouble, he is going to be a first or second rounder. As far as Lumpkin and Brown being 5 stars, not sure they were, but not going to look it up, that just proves even more the flaws. The 5 star ranking became somewhat of a joke. Enough of a joke for the recruiting services to say "we are handing out to many 5 stars and guys are not producing at the next level" That is why there are so few now.

With all that being said, I agree too, MB should have been red shirted.

AD5.....that's why they say it is such a finite difference in the #1 versus the #20 recruiting class.......so subjective.

well, then how come more of Richt's players "panned out" in his first 6 years than have in the last 4 years?

Either way we look at it, CMR hasn't done the job in recent years compared to early on. We are paying him too much money to make excuses like "Saban and Meyer" are in the conference. That is a defeatest attitude.

But I do like the points you made Ad5

Good discussion shannon/ad5

some of these 4&5 star guys just don't pan out - maybe MB should have been red shirted - sometimes these lower rated guys turn out to be better players than the big stars

I think most of the ones that UGA already has committed or are considering appear to be really good players - but you just never know

I think the diffenence between CMR's 1st 5 years and the last 5 yrs is the coordinators - the ones there the first 5 years appear to have gotten more out of the players than the last 5 years - holding out on CTG for now - think the quality of players has been pretty good over the entire 10 year period - some better some not

I feel like IC can make a contribution right away - like lattimore - if he can - I think we should play him right away - if any of these guys are as good as billing - they will only play a max of 3 years - if you red shirt them fresh year then you will only get 2 yrs (moreno) - don't see that he could be any worse than what we have already - and I do realize that the line will have to do a better job of run blocking - even a great running back needs a little bit of help

What do you mean when you say pan out? Are you talking NFL careers, or college careers? Either way I have to disagree to a point, because offensively, I would argue that the talent is developing just as good the last 5 years as it was the first 5. Talented guys are still getting drafted high and we are still scoring enough points to win a lot of football games.

I will agree with you overall because the defenses used to dominate games, or have the ability to keep us in games like we haven't seen in the last couple of years. And Richt is also responsible for that. I wouldn't say he is responsible for developing any defensive player personally just like I don't think Saban had anything to do with developing Ingram, or Chizek did developing Newton. But ultimately Richt makes the decision about who he surrounds himself with, so I can understand where you are coming from if you are referring to defensive development.

RabunDog, I agree. At this level O-Line is crucial. It is a lot easier for a great offensive line to make a sub par RB look good than it is the other way around at the level this level of football.

Good point of views all the way around. I really hope with get IC and/or QB. Need a home run threat out of the back field.
