I believe our D will be exciting to watch. Not always \"happy\" exciting but exciting none the less. The D will be very aggressive and will give up some big plays like everyone has mentioned BUT.....I also believe the D is going to make a huge leap in actually MAKING big plays this year as well. Yes, we'll blow a few assignments while growing in the system.....yes, we'll give up some exasperating TD's on a few big plays by our opponents but we are all going to see more interceptions, more sacks, more fumble recoveries and more chaos created by this 3-4 that we haven't seen in years. The D will be MUCH improved this year and dominant in the coming years......just get ready and have fun!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Picked this up from David Hale's column this morning. This young man could turn out to be the \"prize\" that Coach Grantham is looking for. Kwame came to Athens with football on his mind, a lot to be said for this young man.

GEATHERS LOVES THE 3-4

Kwame Geathers feels at home in the new 3-4 scheme.

The redshirt freshman nose tackle has done everything he possibly can do to get ready for spring ball. In fact, he’s dropped over 30 pounds since August, now weighing in at a modest 308.

“Just my first step is a little quicker, and I think I’m a little quicker off the ball,” he said.

When Geathers made his way to Athens in late August last season, he found out a lot about himself. He was overweight and out of shape. He was also determined to fix both of those problems.

He’s done that, and is starting to generate a name for himself on the practice field.

“I try to compete every day,” Geathers said. “Some days you’re going to have bad days, some days are going to be good days. I go out there and compete every day.”

And he says he fits right in playing over the center. The 3-4 scheme made things easier for him.
“I think it’s not too hard play wise,” Geathers said. “I think it’s just heads-up football. It is just ‘get after the football.’” :woohoo: :woohoo:

Ya gotta like all this Buc. Seems all the kids are buying what the coaches are selling and are ready to put it on the field. Guess we will see but it sure gets your blood going, doesn't it!!

Getting better than almost last is a must and I think we will do that because these defensive coaches mean business and it sounds like the players are responding.

Belin's recent statement about tackleing was right on as is this one

Watched the defensive backs go through an interesting drill. They had to move laterally, mimicking a ball carrier 10 yards ahead of them. The catch: They kept their hands behind their back. The ball carrier would then burst forward, as the db had to get in proper position to make the tackle, all with his hands behind his back. I’ve told you, Lakatos is serious about this tackling business.
Also watched the safeties work through a drill where they had to back-peddle, at least 20 yards, in different directions, and then go up and catch a thrown pass. I did not see a dropped interception. I repeat: NO DROPPED INTERCEPTIONS. I told you, Lakatos is serious about going and getting the ball. I know you guys are craving this. And just to note: Jakar Hamilton has great ball skills. He catches the ball like a receiver. Kind of like Rambo. And Nick Williams. Trend? Yes.
Defensive ends worked on making moves to the outside, first on a dummy, then on each other. They worked on hand technique, and breaking out of initial blocks.
Inside linebackers worked on footwork, sliding laterally, and meeting the ball carrier in the hole. From there, they were working on initial contact, wrapping up, and driving. Noticed Dent there today, looking like the senior that he is. Every practice, another inside linebacker stands out to me.

As Buc would say - there's gonna be a whole lot of slobbernocking goin on - yeah we're going to make some mistakes - BUT - this defense is going to make some memorable plays THIS YEAR

Being as I live among the \"gators\" have a couple of thoughts on the Urban Meyer tirade against the reporter for the Orlando Sentinel.

The reporter reported the exact words used by the player in question. My opinion, not the reporters fault, doing his job. Urban Meyer threatening to bar the OS reporters from the practices and meeting with players shows just how far off base this dude is. If Meyer had said that to a reporter from a larger, recognized print media, he probably would have been taken up on the \"put up the dukes\" bs that he was spouting.

Coach Belin comes out with a statement about Coach Richt's coaches (more or less) over the past four or five years and what happens. . . .exactly nothing, as it should be. All or most of us on this board recognized early on that UGA was not wrapping up or showing the discipline that was needed to be rated the #1 team in the country.

It was poor coaching and there is not another way to put it. To Coach Richt's side on the comment Coach Belin made, showed a tremendous amount of class. When facts hurt, it is like a 15 or 16 year old to lash out, and that is exactly what I witnessed with the coach from UF. Last count I had was 24 or so arrests or infractions under his tutelage . . . running a heck of a program there Urban. UGA has had some serious problems also, don't hear Coach Richt ducking the issue and blaming others.

Florida State is getting stronger by the day, might be time for Urban to \"retire\" again. The big deal would be for UGA to go to JAX and put that dumbfounded look on Urban's face again.

Coaches Belin, Lakatos, Garner, Grantham and others, teach these young fellows well. I fit into that category of folks that believes defense wins football games.

Go Dawgs!
