3/4 Defense Lesson

Thanks Buc - GREAT article

Yes Wlayton - I think we have a GREAT group of coaches

It's not hard to get excited when you hear them talk about how things are going - BUT we need to remember that in Saban's (3-4 defensive expert) first year at bama - they went 7-6 which included a loss to La-Monroe

We will have learning pains - we'll make some big mistakes

Even though our schedule is not as tough this year - I'm not expecting us to do much better

The plus will be that we will make some big good plays also and we will see an improvement as the year goes on - who knows - we might pull an upset or two

RabunDog, I sure hope that you are wrong on the expectations of the Dawgs in the upcoming season. Looking at this schedule, new coaching philosophy, team acceptance on both sides of the ball, it is hard for me to believe that this team won't improve drastically.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that there is a learning process going on, however, don't think that the learning process is going on solely on defense. Appears to me that Coach Richt has looked at both sides of the ball and has decided that he needs to get back into the seat that he knows best . . . . offensive play calling. I don't think for a minute that he will totally overrule Coach Bobo, do believe that he knows the offensive side of the ball has to perform much better than last year, one big reason being, need to give the defense some \"real time\" to become adjusted to the 3/4 and the different schemes that Coach Grantham will use throughout the game.

If we can go to Columbia, come away with a victory, this is going to be a tough team to beat. Tough team to beat for ALL opponents on our schedule. Columbia (Gamecocks) is where this new defense has to grow up, if that happens, personally think it is \"Katie Bar the Door\".

Florida is going to be as always, tough. They have athletes, plain and simple.

Mississippi State will test our offense, they have a defense that flies to the ball, and their offense is only going to get better. This game scares me, especially being an away game.

Auburn, they are laying for the Dawgs. We have been doing to them what Tennessee has been doing to us. Tough place to play, damn good defensive football team. They love to run the football and we will see plenty of that on the Plains.

No doubt in my mind that we are going to score points. Guess some of you have to trust me when I say that AM IS SOLID. I read articles that talk about his height, personally, think that he is 6'. This young man loves the game, is afraid of nothing, will run and make yardage when he needs to. I have said this maybe a thousand times on this board, he reminds me so much of Favre. He is a gunslinger, but above all, he understands the game. A coach on the field. This is another reason that I think that Coach Richt is getting involved on the offensive side again, AM. Coach Richt knows that he has a jewel in the rough. However, AM is not that rough, and takes coaching very well.

Tennessee, have said it before . . . . I hope we put 50 on their butts. Send the \"blue tick\" back to hunting whatever it is they hunt. Rocky Top comes to Athens and I believe that the UGA football team is laying for them, same as Auburn is laying for us.

Please don't get me wrong on this . . . I know that you are tried and true Red and Black. Guess we just see things a bit differently. RabunDog, that is what these boards are for, discussion, not AJC who is FIRST.

I probably have 10,000 more words, but don't need to bore folks anymore.

Go Dawgs!

Really like the way this played out for UGA. The schools tell the prospects what they are going to do as far as number of scholarship offers at a position. Some schools go overboard with the offers and end up \"screwing\" the players out of a promised scholarship.

Works both ways, recruits play a game, the schools play a game. Stop the madness, reminds me so much of what is going on in Washington, D. C.

Have said it before and believe this to be true . . . . Coach Richt is true to his word, almost to a fault.

Give me this chance to talk about Coach Richt and his word.

I appreciate his honesty and respect his beliefs. However, if a football player reaches senior status and cannot do for the football team what a freshman can do, that is called competition and should be accepted by the players and coaches alike. Maybe the answer to that is . . . don't make promises that cannot be kept. That is what the article below is about and I agree with the position of the coaches.

Yo Buc - I think we can improve - but I just hope folks will not expect too much too soon

I agree the first BIG test is those chickens - always a tough game - they are looking to finally break out and they are hungry

I also think the offense will do better with CMR's full attention - he will not have to think about the defense AT ALL - CTG&company will do just fine

Yes I also worry about MissSt - watched them a few times last year - they are on the way UP - tough team

Also worry about Ark - although we out offensed them last year - think they will be a little better this year - the plus is that we have them at home this year - and our defense will be better

Yes i'm tired of rockytop - just 50 - it's hobnail boot time again - I think we can take this one - it won't be easy though - haveing a dooley on the other side should be against the law

auburn will be out for us big time - we've handled them lately

and we won't even talk about them dam lizzards - i'd love to slobernock them back to the swamp

the bee's will be a tough one also - the plus is we're off the week before - speaking of a week off - that's the only week off we have all year - 11 games in a row - will be tough not to stumble - injury's will be key - think CMR said the other day that we had the lowest so far this year compaired to the last few years - that off season conditioning should help keep them down

Never get tired of reading what you have to say - your a die hard dawg

IT'S HUNKER DOWN DAWG TIME

Think we can take the 2 podunks and the buffs/uk/van - that's 5 wins - we need

Good article Buc

I agree it goes both ways - the new crew is more business like - they said they only want 2 - they stuck by it - the recruits are not used to us being so business like - the plus about this situation is that others will start thinking that they need to go ahead and commit - of course you always have those who change their minds - but that's the way the game is played

As to your comment about CMR - I agree with you TOTALLY - that's what I like about CTG&co - he says he plans to play the best 11 no matter who it is - it's who's bringing their \"a\" game - they may be a freshman - but we sould be playing the best - competition is GOOD

I'm hopeing that we explode in that first game against LaLaf and allow the 2nd and 3rd stings play a lot - would give them a lot of experiance and build for the future - I wish CMR would be ok with beating a podunk 70-0

As far as USC is concerned......remember guys, Lakatos OWNED them last year in the bowl game. USC only scored 7, he shut down Garcia.
