The recruiting finish line

Good points, but let me ask you something. You said an 8-5 season hurt us. OK, what was Auburns year? 8-4. What was UT's? 7-6. What has LSU done the last two years? Something like 17-10?

All I am saying is at least look at garner, who is paid to get these guys here-and he didn't do it. Also, apparently the classes 3-4-5 years ago that were all in the top 8 or so were everrated by our staff-or we wouldn't have been 8-5.

I'm just saying. This is the state university with the 2nd most profitable athletics department in the USA in state that is PER CAPITA, the #1 recruiting hotbed in the nation, and 4th overall in D1 commits, with a recruiting coor who has been here establishing relationships for years
AND WE LOSE A BATTLE TO UCF????And a battle with Aub over Whitaker when the kid fits our need and is only 2 1/2 hours from campus?

We should demand better.

Reading these threads, I agree to a certain point. Would have like to have gotten Telvin from FSU. Rogers would have been nice to have, but the only way UGA could have gotten him was to offer, and waste, a scholarship to Nance. I do not think you can blame the coaching staff that Rogers lives with that family, and that is the only reason he is going to UT. Whitaker goes to Auburn, we get Smith and Thornton, not a bad set of DT's. I would rather see us take chances on defensive players that may not be ranked as high. Great defense is what wins championships. We have plenty of receiver's in the cupboard. Green, King, Wooten, Brown, etc.

I agree with wlayton, Grantham will pick up the slack for next year. It actually looks like they are getting a great start for next years recruiting.

Grantham was a late addition, probably costs us a little on recruiting. Lets ease off on blasting the coaches for awhile. It is one recruiting class that may not turn out the way we would like. Keyword is \"may\"

We need to focus on the kids that we are getting because some of them are going to be great.

GO DAWGS.

I believe Grantham will help a lot more in the coming years on the D side of the ball. If I had NFL aspirations, it would be a great stepping stone to play for him. He didn't have much time.

Think most of us knew that there were problems at UGA within the coaching staff. Probably took more time to correct that most had hoped for, including me. Not quite sure what happened, but Coach Richt is the captain of the ship.

I believe that this years defense is going to be something special, something that we can build on when it comes to recruiting the very best to Athens. With the comedy of errors that were displayed by the team last season, no wonder that some of the talent we had hoped for went elsewhere.

Next years class of recruits is supposed to be a very special group of players. I take this into account when signing day comes around . . . . in the last SEVERAL years UGA has had top five or top ten classes. What happened with that STAR talent? I have a suggestion, it was coaching, period. Coach Grantham will not allow that. Even if you are coaching for this guy, better have your head gear on straight. Great hire CMR.

Coach Richt has in my opinion, a new grip on what needs to be done. Not like CMR did not go after the best in college football for his defense. Also, while Coach Bobo seemed to be predictable on many occasions, the offense still managed to put up a lot of points. Offensive talent this coming season alone dictates that Coach Bobo moves forward. He does not have a long term contract.

As for the fellow that chose Tennessee over UGA, we will watch your progress, especially when you play UGA, assuming that you are a starter. Couple of folks that are DB's will remind you that the hits you are going to get could have been avoided.

Truthfully, too many good things have happened to UGA football over the past several years to let one recruiting class or a couple of showboat dudes take away my view of what class is all about.

Sum up my feelings this way . . . We got a new head coach (not a mistake) Coach Richt will never slip like he did with WM again. We have a new defensive coach, Coach Grantham. He not only has the credentials in his pocket, he takes it to the practice and game day fields. Great, great year ahead.

Speaking of the DB's watching for Rogers over the middle. I am really liking Rambo more and more. He is the guy who said last month that we will have better DB play because we would be better fundamentally-a shot at Evans and Jones. Then he said those who didn't choose us better watch out.

Nice post Buc. Too many, including myself, get caught up the with recruits rankings. Ut has had great luck stealing receivers. Believe they stole one from Flordia last year(Richardson). Oh yeah, he ended up finishing his year in the Knox County Prison for armed robbery.

This is the year we get back to our roots. Hard-nosed, hard hitting, great tackling, DEFENSE.

GO DAWGS.

BS, understand your strong feelings, you would not be much of a Dawg if the fur on your back did not stand up on occasion.

We have some serious talent on campus, for example, AJ and his band of merry men. We have receivers and there are many coming out of high school next year.

Orson Charles, is going to be a stick of dynamite this year. Got to believe that Brown will show us why he was rated so highly. Wooten who I watched in Florida is the real deal. Tight ends, hell we have it all.

I am one of those that believe that defense wins football games. As an example, look at what Saban has done with Bama. Made damn sure they could stop the opponent. We have a coach that has experience under Saban, and that ain't bad.

Great butt kicking 3/4 defense coming to a theater near you this year . . . . :woohoo:
