Mark Richt -- Miami

Lot of football talk in the Southeast LimeyDawg. Over the past ever how many years I have drifted away from the NFL with all of the "stuff" that surrounds the LEAGUE.

College football is getting stronger and stronger and I like the direction D1 football is heading. Still think that we will see 8 instead of 4 teams soon in the playoffs.

Buc, recruiting will be very interesting with Richt at Miami.

I don't think he will find the same success he found at UGA, not with Florida, FSU and Miami fighting for the top in state recruits.

But who knows, if he has success down there, which I think he will, could turn them back into power.

Really excited for him, I love college football.

The next few years will be very very interesting.

BullDawg2010, many of the players from South Florida choose to stay in state and play. Makes it much easier than moving too far north.

South Florida players are not that "into" playing for the gators. Jimbo Fisher and his group have done a much better job than muschamp did while in Gainesville.

There is going to be a big push on ESPN and other outlets playing up Mark Richt.

Biggest problem that Richt will have is trying to run the program as he did in Athens. Brothers like to "smoke" and will. If he relaxes regulations, going to have a field day with very talented players.

Still have this thing in my mind that keeps telling me that we are about to lose some very good coaches. I really worry about BMac. He is already established big time in South Florida, and have never felt he was totally appreciated by those that sit in the big seats. Don't have to call names, have done that enough recently, however, I hope that muschamp is the selection for head coach in Columbia, South Carolina. Also, would not rule out Pruitt. He is well established in the Southeast. Do not think that Pruitt will return to Alabama. Would wager that he will not be chosen to be defensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa. Richt needs Pruitt more than Saban does.

I hope he has a ton of success....
... success sucking recruits away from Florida.

Don't count me in on being one that wants to see the payoffs keep expanding. If they expand too much then some big games during the regular season may not mean as much as they once meant. SEC championship game may be important, but maybe not quite as important if both teams still make the playoffs. Gotta be careful with that stuff. A part of what made college football what it was for a lot of years was the fact that every game meant something if you wanted to win a NC. Now that's not quite as true.

I know I'll get flamed for that thought because most everyone wants to change everything and many want to see a tournament for the championship, but I guess I'm just a bit more old school. I grew up caring about the SEC title a lot more than the NC, and every single week your SEC game carried the weight of your dreams with it.

I guess even at the tender young age of 52, I'm becoming a dinosaur.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Very happy for CMR. Will always love him as a wonderful testament to what is good about people. It was hard to want him fired. As a HC, wanted him gone. As a person, tons of respect.

I am glad he is gone from Ga but will also pull very hard for him to have success at the U. As long as it's not against Ga , will pull for him to get a national title one day

CMR in Miami appears on the surface to be a great story. Homecoming of the long lost, under-appreciated alumni QB turned coach, taking the reigns of a troubled program that is chasing its ghosts of twenty years ago and needing to be re-branded as a classy institution. Who better than Mark Richt to do that?

Yeah, then reality sets in. Richt chose the wrong school if he thinks he's going to change the culture in Miami. He might improve it, but he's not going to cure it. I agree with Buc. If Richt is going to employ a gestapo to rigorously spy on and enforce every single regulation and make examples out of every player by suspending whoever is out past curfew or takes a couple of snaps off the bong after a long practice, he's going to be very hard pressed to build a program there. Players coming to the "U" will be in a metropolitan area that doesn't bode well towards fostering the atmosphere to build "Mark's Moral Warriors." Not to mention that the "U" is in stiff competition with FSU, UF, USF, UCF and even FAU for recruiting wars. Yes, the Richt name will pull down some respect and he'll still be a recruiting force, but let's face it, Miami isn't the marquee draw that Georgia is.

The upside is that there will not be the immense pressure out of the gate on Richt to perform. They're going to give him a minimum five year cushion to do his thing, and a solid 7 to 9 win season is going to be a massive improvement in rebuilding the image of a program that has been crestfallen for years now. He'll lull them to sleep with expecting their patience while he works to transform the culture there and picks up some good recruits.

All that said, I'm happy for Mark. I hope this is what he truly wanted rather than what he felt he needed to do. He could have taken a year off and drastically upped his stock. I just hope it pans out for him to something he desires and the "U" is happy with.

@Wartdawg,

Completely agree with your assessment of not liking the playoffs. I was/am a BCS man through-and-through. And the iron-clad argument I give to people as to why I am usually leaves them with no response and no chance to argue otherwise with me. They just say, "oh yeah, but I find it more exciting with a playoff."
