Mark Richt -- Miami

Southerndawg, gonna respectfully disagree here. The U has been cleaned up with Golden. It is a long way from Miami to Tallahassee and Gainesville.....CMR will get plenty of talent who will want to stick close to home. The CMR name will out recruit FAU and S. Florida and Central Florida.

It would be unwise to make a blanket statement about a whole geographic area as far as the bong goes. I teach in a rural county outside of Athens and I can tell you, many of the types of kids CMR recruits from the "better" areas also hit that bong. Furthermore, Miami is no different than CMR recruiting the Dekalb County, South Fulton and the West End around Atlanta.

CMR can get the U back to being a top 10 team.

I was wary of a 4 team playoff. Everyone said "but it's just 4 teams!" and my response was every wrong path begins with one step that you think is right. The argument was it ends controversy!!... right up until you talk to the #5 ranked team, eh?

Now it seems people want to take it to 8... 8 will solve the issues created by 4! It will end there... just like they said it would end with 4 ;)

After it's 8 for awhile... people will want 16 while even at 8 you're starting to diminish some some conference championships. Wait till the 2nd place SEC team wins it all and no one will give a hoot about who won the SEC... no one.

Anyway... don't want to get into that with those that disagree..it is what it is and will be what it will be no
matter what I think, but I think years from now people wont see much different between the NCAA and the NFL, and that will be a bad thing. Anyway.. just wanted to share those thoughts with a like minded individual... don't want to debate it with anyone else who feels different.. it's just my opinion
and I don't want thing it will sway anyone else's mind more than they can sway mine.

Back to Richt... He may find it a bit more difficult down there, but maybe he is what they need for awhile. I wish him well, but I'm a fan of the G.. not any HC.

BulldogShannon,

Completely understand. And yes, I agree with you that the U isn't the same U as it was
under Erickson/Davis/Coker eras where it was properly known as "Thug U."

I was speaking more towards the culture that is Miami working against the culture that Richt will most certainly be trying to build. I've been a part of college campuses long enough to know that bongs and college campuses are about as inseparable as college classes and college books, so I have no problem believing what you're saying that it doesn't matter where the college is. But it doesn't stop just there. I will stand by the assertion that the culture of certain areas is going to work more against a Richt-style program moreso than other areas will. That's the point I was trying to make earlier. The entire tri-county area of Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach is a region of excess and offers pretty much whatever a young freshman could imagine to get himself in trouble. But, no doubt Richt will instill discipline and I do think a certain %'age will buy in. A certain %'age will not.

Either way, I agree with you that Richt will have the program turned around beyond the current state it has seen over the last few years. And there's absolutely no doubt that the Richt name will out recruit USF/UCF/FAU, but the talent will be spread thinner in FL simply due to the number of programs there and kids wanting to stay closer to home.

Cheers

Miami will never be a power again. The have no facilities. It's a toilet. Richt can make them respectable, though.

Miami certainly has enough big booster money that I think if CMR can get them to 10-2 (easily attainable in the ACC) then he will be able to convince those people to pump in the money on new facilities. I've never been there so I don't know if there is a logistical issue with land or whatnot.

He can tell Ludicris and the boys to pony up.
