Richt might take some coaches with him
And this is why.
Richt believes in family time, time off, decompression.
With Kirby it's going to be balls to the wall
Work, Work, Work.
In football, as in life you succeed by hard work.

averagedawg, being retired I can certainly relate to your post.

Once upon a time hard work was "preached" with words and behind the woodshed. Survived through both.

If there are any doubts about Kirby Smart as you say, balls to the wall when he arrives, no go, he knows one way, the way you explained it above.

For me, Santa Claus came early. I was asked the other day what I wanted for Christmas (yes I a am a CHRISTIAN), said I already had received my present. Kirby Smart.

I really appreciate you over a long period of time on this board sounding off time and again about who "our" head coach should be. Guess you got your Christmas early also . . . . :)

Buc, I sure did.

Those of us who were raised in the virtues of hard work know that 'Bama's and Saban's success is 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration.
Hours and hours in the film room.

Your description of Saban is totally on point. Young coach at one point from West Virginia that was taught and understood the value of work from an early age. Team play comes from our elders, can be good or bad. In Nick Saban's case, results tell the complete story.

It's so funny you said that. One of my close buddies and I were texting last Sunday when it was announced that Georgia was now sans-Richt, and he beat me to the punch. This is exactly what he said:

Dude, for me, this is the best Christmas gift I could have gotten this year. Wow. I'm telling the wife to forget buying me a Christmas gift. I just got it. Trust me, we're getting Kirby Smart. Take that to the bank. He's coming home. See you in Jax baby! Woof woof woof.

averagedawg,

you have tapped in, very keenly, to what makes Saban's program what it is. It always blows my mind seeing time-and-again all these stupid specials on TV or hearing the commentators talk about what makes Saban so good, as if its some kind of unsolved murder mystery.

Saban is 100% football discipline, 100% focus, 100% grueling hard work - with no exceptions. You don't embrace that and you're not playing for him. End of subject. Saban has always instilled in his players a very cerebral understanding of the game. I once remember hearing Saban asked in a post-game presser how he prepared for the game and how his game plan was so tight. His response was telling. He said that football is a game of fundamentals and it is as simple as that. He said there's no such thing as an advanced football game. He said that his players must understand that having absolute mastery of the fundamentals is what puts them in a position to understand the means to employ the game plan his coordinators design based upon film study, hard work, and practice until they get it absolutely 100% correct. I have seen plenty of clips from Saban just ripping arse in a practice because his players are not doing it precisely the way he wants it.

This is a great example of what I'm talking about. When's the last time we saw this in Athens? It's all about fundamentals, football discipline, and hard work. Trust me fellas, this is what we're getting in Kirby Smart.

Saban must have started working harder when he got to bama. Nothing special at mich state. Won a championship at Lsu, but not a dominant conference record while there. He is the best coach for sure, but it's more about getting the best players. Got to have the horses and the coaching.

Sec east is going to be very competitive over the next years. Florida played better than I thought they would last night. I only saw part of game but I thought they might have gotten beat worse. I see Tennessee getting stronger and usc will bounce back. I don't see one team dominating every year.
