yd1 you make a good point when mentioning AM and his ability to "adjust". Kansas City in my opinion was the perfect spot for AM and here is one of my reasons. Chiefs run their version of the West Coast Offense, in my mind it suits AM perfectly. Good reason for him to be excited about the team that chose him in the draft.
One of the points that I am trying to make. Andy Reid picked someone that he knew could and would grasp his system and at some point play. Would not be surprised to see AM take some snaps this season.
I watch what is happening in Athens, like the fact that we have great or potentially great running backs. My problem comes with going three and four deep with running backs and we don't have a set lineup on the offensive line. If this could be discussed as having to "rebuild" the offensive line, would be one thing. The problem with "rebuild" is that we have been "rebuilding" since . . . . fill in the blank.
Going back to the AM thingy . . . . Much was said over his stay in Athens about arm strength. While he might not have a bazooka, he does have enough arm to play the deep game. Takes me back to Andy Reid. Smart coach that does not need a bazooka armed quarterback for the way he runs his offense.
There is no doubt that defensive line play has changed a lot in recent years. Another reason that having a quarterback that can read and react suits AM in Reid's offense.
Know that there are many Falcon fans on this board. What would any of you give for a much improved offensive line? Whether or not you like your present quarterback, going deep has caused him and the team many problems. Matty Ice, will become Crushed Ice if that front does not improve. He is another quarterback with a big arm, but lying on your back does not get the football downfield.
Simply saying that recruiting should be based on "need" not some of the other "stuff" that often comes into play. Every college football team has a board, many or most recruit accordingly. Can't always get the player or players that you want, but there is a game plan prior to playing live football.
There are differences as to what is going on with Georgia not reaching higher goals. Is it talent or lack of talent? Is it coaching or a lack of coaching?
If defenses change, it forces offenses to change, works both ways.
Say again. With the running backs we have on campus and those headed our way, would like nothing more than seeing an offensive line that creates cracks in the defensive front. Gurley gets past the defensive line, linebackers don't like meeting him head on, and Gurley will do that. ogredawg is probably right in his numbers, 65/35 passing/running.
Yesterday watched a replay of South Carolina/Wisconsin football game in Orlando. The Badgers offensive line got all over the Gamecocks defensive line, and a very good defensive line at that. Difference between the two teams, my opinion, Connor Shaw. Smart, tough, with the great ability to tuck it and run. Two of my favorite SEC quarterbacks recently, AM and Connor Shaw.
Edit: Wartdawg, was busy punching keys when you posted. Went back and read . . . . you and I are on the same page it appears. Think it has been that way for some time on this issue. Bothers me when the "explanation" from Richt is . . . . we need many running backs because of injury or the threat of injury. All any of us need to do is check the past along the offensive line, injuries . . . . many. Depth, zero.
