I agree, don't see it working nowadays either. As BAD as our D has been in the last few years we had no problem with GT.......I know, somewhat different talent level.

They would have to completely fire/revamp the offensive coaching staff as well. Don't believe Bobo has a clue how to run a wishbone and Friend probably hasn't a clue how to block for it as well.

While AU has been extremely successful with their similar style of attacking, SEC D's will eventually start shutting that offensive scheme down just like they were catching on to UM's spread offense at UF before UM left. Malzahn has already indicated that he is going to change things up and start throwing the ball more.....guess we'll see about that.

Imo, I feel "gimmick" type offenses won't last long.....smart DC's will figure a way to shut them down. What has seemed to always work CONSISTENTLY (again my opinion) has been the pro style with a balanced attack....that would include "spreading" the field occasionally with 4 wideouts etc.

I certainly get it with the talent we have at RB but I agree with ogredawg. With the size, speed and aggressiveness of SEC D's, I feel you had better attack them with a balanced attack to keep these great D's on their heels and hopefully confused and some guessing.

Besides, as we all know, great D is the main ingrediant in this league anyway.

Still see UGA as a 65/35 pass first offense. With the RB talent we have I do not see enough carries going around to satisfy them all if the upperclassmen stay healthy that is...and if that statement holds true look for transfers to happen...

I understand what you are saying but.....

Gurley is gone after this season.....KM is an unknown quantity after his injury (he may never be completely the same OR if he has a good year he could leave as well....others have in the league that you wouldn't have thought would go).....Chubb and Michel are rookies with a LOT to learn....and Turman will play alot this year backing up Gurley and maybe Marshall (big maybe on Marshall).

If you think about it, these RB's are spaced out pretty well. After this year it may be the Turman/Chubb/Michel show.... with new recruits coming in.

This all said without even mentioning possible and PROBABLE injuries. Love to have had all these extra RB's LAST year....huh?

I am very happy with the RB situation at UGA and don't see any transferring. Now, OL?....different story.

Looking at the Auburn offense, there were some dated plays, plays that take me back to the single wing attack. Also you can look at their videos and see basically 4/5 plays running the football throughout the game.

This is the area that I am trying to get to . . . .

Why do we recruit young men like Faton Bauta, if our overall plan is to continue to "basically" run the same offense that we have, dating back prior to Mike Bobo being the Georgia quarterback?

Not necessarily saying run the wishbone, but saying this. If we want someone to pump gas and wash windshields, probably not going to have that person making change at the register.

AM took command of the quarterback position in Athens. Hutson Mason understands that. If we do not "draft" better according to position, as yd1 relates to, we will continue to win 8/9 sometimes 10 games a year. According to our schedule.

What I heard coming out of the Spring practices and Spring Game, Bauta was the best quarterback on the field behind Hutson Mason. Faton Bauta understands the play book as well as Hutson Mason. Not trying to replace Mason, think he will do ok.

My problem is after Hutson is gone or is injured, will Bauta be the next man up? I do know that many in the media, some of whom I talk to indicate that Brice Ramsey is the chosen one. That does not square up with me.

Goes back to the bazooka arm versus a lesser arm with other skills, like AM. Remember the chatter and comparisons in the media and fans about Metterberger's arm strength? How did that play out? Good game in Athens against LSU, last time I looked, the bazooka arm did not win.

It is what it is apparently. No doubt that Mike Bobo and Will Friend are well versed in the pro style with a "newly" added spread. Mark Richt, Mike Bobo and recently added offensive line coach as yet have not proven their system can get us further than a bowl game.

Still have nightmares when I hear Memphis mentioned or JAX and Nebraska last season. Malzahn took over a losing Auburn team, installed a very basic single wing type offense, with a defensive back turned quarterback and faced off with FSU in the National Championship Game. Did this in one season. Maybe coaching has something to do with turn arounds. Maybe doing some things differently on offense might change business as usual.

I wonder how we can have more RB's than we have different run calls in our playbook, too often relying on a lead draw where we hand the ball off to our RB's with them flat footed and standing still.

and just who is responsible for this type of play calling and who runs the offense. Watch out for that bus.....

yankeedawg1, agree.

Cannot believe that Will Friend does not carry some of the same "thoughts" on coaching that Jeremy Pruitt does. Too close not to share thoughts.

I know what I have seen since Pruitt/Rocker came on board is totally out of the normal way of doing things in Athens. These two men are not head coaches, but they sure as hell are on a one way track to make needed changes to a program that has been left high and dry as compared to some other SEC schools.

Today I watched Michigan State/Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Watching Head Coach Mark Dantonio on the sidelines, thought I was watching Nick Saban. Many of the same mannerisms. Biggest thing I saw was a group of young men dressed in Green play football for their coaches, as well as themselves.

Certainly agree that there appears to be assistants getting the head coaches attention. If there is a better way, stubborness from one or two individuals can and do wreck programs and careers. The "war" between Richt/grantham was real. Since leaving the Georgia Football confines, grantham has not uttered the name of Mark Richt. Fact. If someone knows differently, post it, I am not "that stubborn".

wlayton most young people today feel a sense of entitlement. Just look at our current administration who push the entitlement attitude. The young people today are raised that way and football players are no different. They just may have that attitude they are entitled to play no matter what, and if it does not go may way I will go somewhere it will be my way.....just sayin....
