Grantham and the Time Clock

Georgia defense on the path to being the worst defense in the history of UGA football. Had to think about that for some time before coming to (my) conclusions.

Game of football changes ever so often, offenses with new wrinkles, same can be said for defenses. Over many years most equal out and there is some semblance of unity on both sides of the ball.

Thought about the word unit and unity. Georgia has enough players on the defense to form a good unit. Part that seems to be missing is unity. Remember so well a short time back players point fingers at each other on the field of play. That was not a pretty site. Now what I see is defensive players waving their hands in the air, looking at the sideline for guidance and it is not there.

Sorry, I don’t buy into this group of players not being able to learn a system. I feel the “system” has betrayed the players. I have watched a high percentage of this group of athletes on video during their high school days. They played fast and I did not see a lot of this “arm waving” toward the defensive coach asking for help.

When I looked at Grantham in a photo that probably all have seen, handful of a players jersey with the look of a mad man on his face, not really my idea of “coaching them up”. Different strokes for different folks. Many that played football understand that practice and game time habits usually differ. If Grantham’s ways of approaching players was paying off on the defensive side, that would be one thing. Reality . . . . They are not.

Do I think that Todd Grantham will change his way of coaching? No. Do I believe that it will have an effect on players attitudes . . . . Will bet the farm it will. Too bad so much has to be said, especially after this loss to Missouri. Comes a time when that little sore on our arm becomes a boil and something has to be done.

Todd Grantham has good football players on his side, has the remainder of the season to either put up or shut up. Although he "coach speaks" in defense of himself, that hand will no longer play.

Well said Buc. Honestly, I believe CMR chose CTG as the ying to his yang. CTG is a firebrand type of coach...Unfortunately, his defensive acumen doesn't appear to be as "hot" as his temper! Nonetheless, we all have seen this documentary before. CWM was given an intolerable amount of time to "right" his defensive vessel before CMR laid a torpedo broadside....I'm concerend that the same will occur with CTG.

One caveat, however,.....CMR seems to have undergone a metamorphosis of sorts. His side line demeanor is much more animated. He's shown post game emotion for his players and halftime anger toward coaches and referees. One could argue that an MNC is becoming much more important to CMR. So much so that the potential loss of same became very apparent this past weekend. CMR's current contract runs through the 2017 season, not a tremendous amount of time left, in "football" years, to take your program from "also ran" to a Dynasty....Especially if we suffer a few more losses this season, when the expectations were, once again, greater than they perhaps should have been.....

Went back, took another look at the gator article. First time I read a certain portion, did not like it. Had to read again.

Grantham did not apologize to Henry. Grantham was asked if he felt he should and responded, “I’ve kind of basically said what I’m going to say and I think I’m ready to move forward.”

Anyone reading the points below think one or more fit our Defensive Coordinator?

1.If something has gone wrong (or is not the way it should be), then someone other than myself must be identified and blamed for causing the situation.

2.This person/s’ malfeasance diminishes the respect he/she deserves as a person.

3.So, it is permissible (and only fitting) to treat this person/s in ways he/she deserves to be treated such as ignoring, name-calling, and in extreme cases, physical assault.

4.I must not accept any significant degree of responsibility for the situation inasmuch as to do so would be to admit that I am myself also diminished as a person, and therefore deserving of the same disapprobation and negative treatment.

I think I see some things in Grantham that cause many people in the world problems. One thing that I have noticed in watching his videos, has this habit of chewing gum when being interviewed. For many folks that is a way of releasing frustration, could be referred to as "staying under control".

Just saying folks . . . . Think I see some problems in the near future that we are not going to like.

Edit: Have to say this. I have said several times on this board that I really wanted to see this group of coaches stay together. Mentioned my belief in stability, has served me well over the years. That my Brothers will not cross my lips or stroke the keys on this computer when referring to what I have witnessed in a very short time.

Also NC Dawg, thanks for the correction on the Richt contract. For some reason I was thinking 2015.

Really don't have anything kind to say of Todd anymore. I loved the fire he brought to Athens when he first was hired but something is broken on his side of the ball. Don't believe he can fix it, just like I didn't believe WM could fix the issues he had when he was the DC here. Hoping some hard decisions are made at the end of the year on the defensive staff, however I believe the AD and our head coach will have a long discussion with TG at the end of the year and give him a chance to fix things (one more year).


Don't really think he can fix the issues, it's obvious to everyone that the defense is poorly coached in A LOT of areas. Tackling is one thing that personally drives me crazy, can't stand seeing arm tackling, can't stand to see people not wrap up. It appears as if the defensive coaching staff has never heard of fundamentals before, really makes me sick to my stomach to see some of the things I've seen this year on defense.

Some will say we are young, I say we are poorly coached on that side of the ball. When a team is young we see improvements over time, our defense has regressed. Blame falls on coaching.

Let some people say we are young, the first reply to that is the loaded 2012 defense, and the second reply is that all we asked for with youth is progress.

Fire.. yep, I liked it as well. The bad thing is that now it seems it was just a smokescreen.

Having TG on the clock is pointless without also having Richt on the clock. The source of the softness predates Grantham.
