If Gurley was the only guy hurt, we'd destroy Missouri. JJ Green can run just fine, and I'd forgotten completely about Turman. But not having Malcolm Mitchell, Michael Bennett, Keith Marshall and Justin Scott-Wesley is just too much to lose. What would anyone have said if we knew that only 5 games into the season every one of those guys would be out? Goodbye championship chances.
Brought this thought to me thriller.
A short time back, two or three years ago as you said above . . . . "Goodbye championship chances". That would have been the case. Ain't DEPTH A BEAUTIFUL THING. Short time back, not sure we could have put folks in the lineup that would have had a chance to win. We do have a chance on Saturday.

As long as AM is healthy we have a hell of chance. I am not going to write this team off or make excuses for poor play calling. It was always stated on this board and this team:
NEXT MAN UP. Say it, then prove it, don't whine about it or the injuries.

I'm with you orgredawg on the "next man up" but the problem now is "the next 6-8 men up" all at ONE time.
Btw, wasn't it your post about Mizzou's weak schedule?

I think you said this earlier, wlayton, but the next man up in some cases was 3 deep a week or two ago, because he isn't as good as the first or second man up. THAT is what worries me. Missouri will be playing their starters against some of our 3 deep skill positions. (I'm sorry for calling out a player by name, but Rhett McGowan is now starting. He simply cannot catch a football. I'd feel about as confident if they would pick a guy out of the trombone section and suit him up.) That makes it a coin toss. Our absolutely ANEMIC defense breaks the deadlock - I'm afraid.
But Buc is helping me keep my chin up. Therefore I firmly resolve: I will NOT watch replays of that infernal Tennessee game, and I will convince myself that the game wasn't as close as it looked because they blocked a punt. I will keep chanting that each night to help me get to sleep.

Not the one to make up excuses...BUT if you take away the blocked punt and the phantom TD then they just score 21 on us assuming they reverse the call on the TD and then they kick a FG and make it! Also I don't like comparing games but UT put up 17 on a very good Fla D in the swamp! Also that blocked punt gave them hope and for sure changed the tempo...
YES our D needs to improve but fellows lets face it besides the Gators no SEC team has your typical SEC D's. The "silver lining" here is our young D has been tested and in battles against some pretty dang good teams and offenses! Our boys our very athletic, have speed and they have fight in em' and it's just a matter of time before it all comes together and clicks. I'm betting the farm on it happening this weekend! With that being said, I would love to see our D simplified just like everyone else had said! 4 man front and some man coverage...
I still feel like our NC hopes are alive, I'm a competitor before I'm a realist I guess...

sflanagan21, I'm glad you are posting. Keep helping Buc keep my attitude positive, please. Probably the biggest fear I have is this:
We replaced Justin Scott-Wesley, one of the fastest and sure handed receivers in COLLEGE FOOTBALL, with Rhett McGowan. When I watched the replays of the LSU and Tennessee games, the guy simply can't catch a pass unless he's wide open or the defender traps the ball against him. I'm serious. At the end of the UT game, look at the passes he dropped. There is NO WAY JSW would have dropped ANY of them. One in particular hit his hands where only he could have caught it, and it bounced off and hit the sand. Against LSU he dropped an EASY first down catch in a crossing route. They can't hit you any harder if you catch it than they will if you drop it, so just catch the darned thing.
That's why I'm worried. But I'm with you on the special teams points. I'm incredulous that we've given up 3 TDs in 3 games on special ed teams. So SURELY we can stop THAT bleeding, even if our D can't put a bandaid on the gaping scoring wound we are currently hemorrhaging from.
