Allow me to purge on my first post of the season - as I've been too tied up to comment on last week's game and frankly, I didn't want to.
At this point, I have absolutely positively no faith that we're going to do anything other than get our asses handed to us by South Carolina. Without delving into last week's debacle, taking what I saw last week and transposing it to this weekend - I don't see any way possible to take that pitiful performance (once again) by Kenarious Gates and somehow pretend that in 7 days, he's going to be "coached up" to do anything better. I remember last year against SC where he looked like a child out there who had not a damn clue what was going on. If the o-line turns out it's same lackluster performance, which it will, it's going to be a long day against SC boys.
I have made no secret on here that I'm done with this coaching staff, and have been for several seasons. I know that's going to get me some love and some hate on here, but oh well. The statistics don't lie. I'm not going to spend time this season lamenting Richt and Co. still being here because there's nothing I can do about it, and until the powers-that-be pull their heads out of their nether regions and realize that Richt is not the guy to give us the hardware, all I can do is accept what is. Most people are pleased with 10-2 seasons.
Nothing is new in Aaron Murray-ville. Aaron Murray is our Peyton Manning, and yes he will leave UGA with all the SEC stats in his quiver, but he'll always go down as the QB that couldn't play in nor win the big games. This week against SC will give him an opportunity to "advance" his record to 1-12 against ranked opponents, and he will. If we have a 5th year senior who is getting not one, but two delay of game penalties, it's clear his head is a fog of confusion and it's clear he's not comfortable in these big game settings. The sloppy play, poor play calling, stupid penalties, lackluster effort on the lines just to me is a recipe for a disastrous Saturday in Athens. May I be wrong, but what hope am I to find that anything beyond the ordinary will take place between the hedges?
Spurrier has made it his vocation in life to beat UGA every time he plays them, and this week will be no different. If that o-line can't find some soul in a week and give Murray adequate protection and open some holes, we're in for a long day boys. Is Coach Richt matching Spurrier's intensity, drive and zeal to beat SC? Intensity, drive and zeal are not character traits I would use to describe Richt, let alone characteristics I would say he instills in his teams for these huge matchups.
Why should the talking heads call us anything other than dead in the water? Clowney is going to put an absolute clinic on for Kenarious Gates once again and unless Bobo backs off his play action with Murray and actually tries to call plays to counteract an aggressive pass rush against a tackle who couldn't block his own shadow, then Murray is going to spend a lot of time with his facemask in the grass.
I'm sorry, but I just cannot be optimistic about this. Hate me if you want.
