Agreed. You may remember I mentioned last year that RS is a straight ahead power rusher, where IC had ability to wait for holes to form and then hit them.

That is when he is in the game..... Sorry that wasn't nice.

But true.....;)

I'd really be surprised if IC mans up enough to put on the uniform at UGA again,I'd really be surprised.

Just finished watching some of the combine news on ESPN. Todd McShay was being interviewed and the conversation came around to Orson Charles. Todd McShay all but slobbered on himself. Before the combine started, there were three tight ends being mentiond in the top 50 draft slots. Charles being one of them, but not first mentioned.

I won't be surprised if Orson Charles is the first tight end taken. Good for Orson Charles and I am also glad to see Todd McShay finally recognize the talent this young man has.

Too bad that we did not have all the team parts working together, Orson Charles is all that. Stays healthy, we will see many ESPN replays of OC on their network, much like we see AJ and his talent being displayed in Cincinnati now.

We sure send a lot of good looking prospects to the NFL don't we . . . . We have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball in Athens now, let's step it up and use that talent wisely. What is it that some say on this board . . . use more than the 4 or 5 plays over and over, year in and year out.

From where I sit. . . .
There will come a day when we will have enough depth to let these young fellows remain in the same position year after year, not moving folks around as has been the case for far too long in Athens. Players get hurt, moving folks is understandable. I sure hope that I see some changes in Athens this year.

Plenty of media and coach speak right now, but many of us on this board have been through that part of the off season game before. Nothing wrong with some players being able to play more than one position. I do however believe in primary position play. Swear by it.

It goes something like this to me. . . . . if the wife and I drive the same car, everytime one of us changes seat positions, like for example the drivers seat, many things have to happen. Seat position, steering wheel, rear view mirrors all have to be moved or adjusted. If we drive separate autos, nothing changes, both wife and myself are comfortable with the car the way it is. Football is the same. :)

Edit: Not Cleveland, Cinncinati.
Edit #2: Cincinnati . . . .This getting old and retired may not be all it is cracked up to be. ;)

Orson Charles had 35 reps on bench press, most for TEs at NFL combine. Justin Anderson T3 for OL with 32.

Guess this points in the direction of Coach JTII and his work in the weight room. Be interesting to see the body changes on some of the Redshirt Freshmen from last year. Strength means a lot in the area the "Big Fellas" occupy on the field. Pat on the back Coach . . . . :)

Went back through a lot of this thread, trying to satisfy myself as to where the emphasis should be put on our upcoming season.

Think most of us know that there are a couple of areas that are up for grabs. Going to go back to some of the posts that I have read over the past couple of years on this board. I tend to keep a lot of what has been said in the past.

On more than one occasion sadlerdawg has brought up "special teams". Also saw some of the same talk coming from averagedawg. There is a post that goes back a ways that really caught my attention and ogredawg had some things to say about "special team" play. These three members are in "my opinion" on the mark when it comes to game changing plays and field position.

Brings me to this . . . . we are a year deeper in our defensive system, have players with more experience, and most of all, they wanted to return to Athens. These guys are right, (Board Members) any team that starts from the 20 yard line or closer to the goal line, odds are against that team putting six up against a Grantham defense.

Yes, I know that we have cases of "why" did we not keep Michigan State pinned down. I also seem to remember we were without Jenkins in the middle of that scoring drive. Not an excuse, but I would pose this question . . . how would our team have done the entire season without Jenkins in the lineup? Easy for me to answer, probably most of you also.

OK, keeping it real. My understanding is that we will not be changing the way the "special teams" are handled this season. By that I mean this . . . . we will not have a "special teams" coach, it will be divided up between different coaches. Correct me if I am wrong, I think that is the way Mark Richt said he would handle it this season. No changes from last season.

One of the lessons learned by professional teams was the need for a special teams coach. That is very important at the next level, and it is very important at the college level. The label is "Special Teams" . . . . is that not a TEAM or TEAMS? How is that different than Defensive Team or Offensive Team? Eleven (11) players on all three of the TEAMS. We have a headmaster for the Offensive Team, we have a headmaster for the Defensive Team . . . . had a coach leave for the NFL (Carolina Panthers) and he was in control for the most part of "Special Teams". What happened when he left? Look at the stats, it is all there for everyone to see.

I have heard that we will use any and all players on the team, whether starters or those that don't normally start. At some point, someone has to wear the hat that runs that part of our team.

As I see it, that is not a "true point" of focus if I am reading what our head coach is telling us. Maybe Mark Richt is not telling us everything, I just know this. . . . . we can talk about what our needs are, some say offensive line, I have said that, or defensive backs, I am concerned, but my major concern right now is reading what the above members said sometime back about "special team play". Again, in my opinion, the members mentioned had it right, and have it right.

So, my biggest concern for this season is . . . . SPECIAL TEAMS. :)

Edit: An added thought, check out post #55 on this thread and check the stats out at the bottom of the post. Seth put it out there for all to see. What say you? Are we focused? Just asking. . . :)
