UGA Board Participation

I just not understanding that viewpoint. I guess my question would be if you were the one calling the shots, you fire CMR and the next coach doesn't pan out, would you expect to be fired? I sure would. Everybody plays cupcakes. Only differnce in our schedule and bama's last year was they played Penn State, and ark. We played BSU, who I believe finished ranked higher than both of those teams.

Will say this too, I don't think intimidation is a factor anymore at this level. Athletes are too arrogant at any level. Hell, even Ga. Southern had better success against bama's defense than LSU. Guessing they weren't scared. Lesser athletes feel they have something to prove. Also, think that we might need to realize that too. No team is going to fear us so we need to quit expecting teams to roll over, so I am using your point on a different approach. Don't expect them too. Go play every game like you are the underdog.

Still talking about offensive linemen. Once we get this part of the program squared away, hope we don't have to cross this path again. Injuries cannot be helped. I really hope that Friend develops into that coach that we need so badly. Below is an interesting link on the young man from Norcross that played at Maryland.

Spent some time thinking about Abuurn and their coaching changes. BVG was better than good when he was in Athens. Definitely had the attention of the players that he coached. Landed eventually with the Atlanta Falcons and many thought that he might be able to stay there for an extended period of time. We must remember however that BVG likes to run his own show and in most cases he knows when he has worn his welcome out.

BVG is a proponent of the 4/3 saddled up with the Tampa 2. Aha, enter Willie Martinez, Tampa 2 expert . . . Right? Glad that these two found their way back to the SEC, and especially Abuurn. Did fail to mention that Stoops informed Willie Martinez that he would no longer need his services in Oklahoma. Guess the shoe did not fit there either. Both of these coaches will probably be lights out on the Plains, right?. Folks in Tuscaloosa have to be beside themselves with Chizik’s latest effort to keep his job. By the way, many folks were totally against Chizik being hired. Have some Abuurn friends and they really did not like what happened in Athens this past season. They still don’t think that they have the right man running the team.

Look at it like this. We have the top tight end in the nation by rating services last season. Took time off from football and played basketball his first year on campus. Jay Rome should have an absolute field day against the Tampa 2 in Abuurn this season. 6’6” and 250 or so pounds on a frame that now has more agility since playing the game of basketball, going to be a nightmare for those small linebackers that Abuurn has. Cover two allows the underneath plays, system is designed to make a team drive the ball down the field using lots of plays, therefore chances of turnovers should increase.

With the speed and talent that we have on the outside, going to put a lot of pressure on the linebackers. Those DB’s and Safeties understand that AM will go over the top, they tasted some of that last season and the season before. Sure opens up that running game, and we have the talent to have a superior running game. Those little swing passes out of the backfield will be reminiscent of the way Florida used to take our pants down in Jacksonville under Spurrier.

We all know what we need to make this work. Guessing that Coach Friend is going to handle that.

Feel sure with the returning defensive team that Grantham has put together, those young men will make sure that the other team puts the ball on the ground quite a bit.

Haven’t said a lot about the other coaches, however, Coach “O” and Coach Lakatos seem to have a solid grip on this football team.

A lot of things can happen between this year and next year. It is understandable for us to be concerned about losing a lot of players. The positive spin to that in my opinion is that the young pups are going to be there with the Seniors and Juniors, and good play from that group can only have one effect on the young guys, they learn from watching talented players make talented plays. Alabama has been doing this successfully under Saban and Smart for quite a while, we all see the results from that system.

Go Dawgs, build the depth and coach’em up . . .

We spend some time talking about these high school football players and the attention that they seek and get. This young fellow could turn out to be the leader of the band. Apparently great football player that has me believing he will cross the Chattahoochee.
