I hear all the Saban trashing but believe me, Nick Saban wants Kirby Smart to get a premiere head coaching job.
Maybe Dooley can feed the Tn fan base enough red meat this year to keep his job.
Smart at Tennessee equals trouble for Georgia recruiting, as if we need more trouble.

wlayton, My understanding is that Saban wanted Smart to get the A&M job. The ultimate compliment I guess, coaching against your former assistant.wlayton wrote:

averagedawg.....do you think Saban would want Smart to go to UT and have to play him every year?.....guess it wouldn't matter for a few years anyway.

Buc, Look what happened to Tn when Garner left. Tennessee cannot compete in the SEC without Georgia recruits. A whole bunch of former Tn stars are from the state of Georgia.Buc wrote: averagedawg, if Coach Kirby Smart takes the job in Knoxville, you are so right, we may never talk about a championship, SEC or otherwise at UGA. Talent might be there, but all of us have seen a lot of talent not reaching potential under this regime.
Saban loves Kirby Smart, if not, when his name was thrown around "big time" prior to Coach Grantham coming to UGA, Saban would have let him go. Saban sat down with Kirby and allow me this . . .
"Explained the facts of life" to the young coach. Kirby listened and now has another National Championship on his resume. His resume as "defensive coordinator" for Saban, impressive. Does not get much better than that at this point. By the way, Alabama 21, LSU 0. How much more is Coach Smart worth since listening to Saban . . . . I don't know, probably one of those contracts that all of us would love to have.
Derek Dooley does not have those credentials, was not ready for the jump that he made, too many obstacles for a coach that did not have the same amount of time or "seasoning" that Kirby Smart now has locked away in his "Saban Knowledge Locker".
Mark Richt wants to compete in the SEC for championships, time is not on his side.
Once our next season's schedule was formulated and all of us had a chance to look at it, there were many comments here and on other boards about us running the schedule without a loss (or the possibility of) doing that. Wonder how many would say the same now. Anything is possible, but somewhere the probability factor has to show its ugly face.
Those that think we will fly through this schedule, think about this . . . .
Missouri is not chopped liver. Play in their house.
Spurrier will not lay down for us, he has a very good football team. In Columbia.
Squeezed by Florida last season, things have changed a bit in Gainesville. Jacksonville = Home field.
Beat the you know what out of Abuurn, think they will remember that on their field.
If we successfully get by those games, are we ready for say . . . Alabama, LSU, or Arkansas.
Take this as negative or take it as one person looking at our schedule without drinking the kool-aid. That is everyones choice.
Mark Richt cannot sign 25 good, better or best players to play football in Athens. We don't have a problem, right, just did the best he could because of all the "flak" about him being on the hot seat.
Muschamp was and is on the hot seat in Florida, what does he do . . . puts together a class of recruits that outshine the "Dean of SEC Coaches". . . . Mark Richt.
