Buc, can you expand on this statement? Not saying I disagree just curious what changes Richt didn't control.

Mike Honcho wrote: Wanted to give a small tip of the cap to Coach Richt...I know it's still not the end of the season and I'm still on the fence about a few personnel changes that may or may not need to be made, BUT there's one area of CMR's experience/expertise that, after this season, I'm totally sold on.

A quick scenario for ya'll...

Two coaches are each heading programs that have a storied past of championship-caliber football. One is the "grizzled veteran" of the SEC coaches, the other, a first year "up and comer" with what many think is limitless potential.

This first coach takes a stoic approach to his job, never letting his emotions fluctuate too much and always staying in control. The second coach wears his heart on his sleeve, spews fire, and expends as much physical energy chasing refs up and down the sidelines as his players do chasing opponents on the field.

These two coaches are faced with the difficult task of keeping player spirits high, and teams focused on long-term goals in the midst of losing football games. The first coach has this happen right off the bat, first two games of the year. The second has a few weeks to get comfortable in his new surroundings before things start going south.

Following in the footsteps of their coach, the first team pulls out of their 2-loss skid to go undefeated the remainder of the season and earn a berth into their conference championship.

The second sees their bewildered first year leader losing more and more control of his staff and team with every passing loss. They, in turn, follow him into the mire, losing to their in-state rival at the end of the regular season and just barely becoming bowl eligible.

I'm sure most, if not all, of you by now have figured out who coach number one is, for those of you who haven't figured out coach number two, I'm sure the name "Muschamp" rings a bell.

I'm NOT ready to say that all is perfect in the Classic City BUT I am ready to eat any and all of my words in the past that doubted that Richt's demeanor wasn't want this team needs. He kept his cool after going 0-2, righted the ship, and never once came close to losing the faith and respect of his players.

Only time will tell if CMR is the man to follow in Dooley's Championship footsteps...I will say though, it seems that like Dooley, CMR has found his "Erk" on the other side of the ball and deserves a big thank you from all of the bulldawg nation for a damn good 2011!!

With ya MH, guess that's why you, myself and 4-5 others are on the island together.

CMR is class in my book and in this world of college football with corruption, alleged sexual abuse, cheating, lying and underhandedness, I for one, am proud to have CMR represent UGA. If he was fired from UGA, other schools would fight over hiring him because things of life are going beyond the scope of just playing football......just ask PSU and Syracuse.

southernlover, I like to be questioned. Thanks for doing so.

Richt said at the end of 2007 that Martinez was special and he had the defensive side coming together. southernlover, at the end of 2007 that blew up in Richt's face, it did not however get a change on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Richt said loud and clear that WM was his coach.

My understanding is that Coach Richt knew that serious changes were going to be made not only in the front office but on the football field also. Actually I was surprised that Coach Richt did not leave the University of Georgia when being forced to release WM. The cross roads at that point were staring Coach Richt squarely in the face. Do you go with the program or . . . .

Never forget that Grantham was not the choice of Coach Richt from the beginning. At that point in tiime Richt was lost. If one believes that Coach Richt had Grantham as his number one at that point, not much can be said.

Coach Grantham is the defensive coordinator at UGA because of VaTech and their connections. Grantham knew that he wanted to be "on top" again, that was not going to happen in Dallas. That is just how damn smart our defensive coordinator is.

Remembering one statement from Grantham when he signed on . . . . Five hour radius from Athens and we can be champions. Grantham trusts folks, much like Richt does and that is what makes these two compatible. This is as has been said, could be really good. The combination of these two men and their talents could place UGA in a place, ready for this . . . . UGA has NEVER BEEN.

To answer your question southernlover. Always take the long way around. Richt did not know at that point who the next Athletic Director would be. He found that out after the hire. Then the meeting between McGarity and Richt. President handled that.

Buc, first of all, I don't know the real answer but........someone (maybe Wartdawg....he's very knowledgeable) posted that CTG actually WAS CMR's first choice but that he couldn't contact him until Dallas' season was over....so he may have been the 5th DC actually interviewed but not his 5th choice. I have no clue but it was stated a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks, Coach Richt.
You are a good role model.
Thanks, Coach Grantham.
You have put the fear back in Georgia Football.

wlayton, I can promise you that Grantham was not the first choice. That might come down between Wartdawg and Buc on this board.
