Tip of the cap to CMR

Wanted to give a small tip of the cap to Coach Richt...I know it's still not the end of the season and I'm still on the fence about a few personnel changes that may or may not need to be made, BUT there's one area of CMR's experience/expertise that, after this season, I'm totally sold on.

A quick scenario for ya'll...

Two coaches are each heading programs that have a storied past of championship-caliber football. One is the "grizzled veteran" of the SEC coaches, the other, a first year "up and comer" with what many think is limitless potential.

This first coach takes a stoic approach to his job, never letting his emotions fluctuate too much and always staying in control. The second coach wears his heart on his sleeve, spews fire, and expends as much physical energy chasing refs up and down the sidelines as his players do chasing opponents on the field.

These two coaches are faced with the difficult task of keeping player spirits high, and teams focused on long-term goals in the midst of losing football games. The first coach has this happen right off the bat, first two games of the year. The second has a few weeks to get comfortable in his new surroundings before things start going south.

Following in the footsteps of their coach, the first team pulls out of their 2-loss skid to go undefeated the remainder of the season and earn a berth into their conference championship.

The second sees their bewildered first year leader losing more and more control of his staff and team with every passing loss. They, in turn, follow him into the mire, losing to their in-state rival at the end of the regular season and just barely becoming bowl eligible.

I'm sure most, if not all, of you by now have figured out who coach number one is, for those of you who haven't figured out coach number two, I'm sure the name "Muschamp" rings a bell.

I'm NOT ready to say that all is perfect in the Classic City BUT I am ready to eat any and all of my words in the past that doubted that Richt's demeanor wasn't want this team needs. He kept his cool after going 0-2, righted the ship, and never once came close to losing the faith and respect of his players.

Only time will tell if CMR is the man to follow in Dooley's Championship footsteps...I will say though, it seems that like Dooley, CMR has found his "Erk" on the other side of the ball and deserves a big thank you from all of the bulldawg nation for a damn good 2011!!

Mike, Richt has had a good run this year. He is the head coach and win or lose that is where the football program has to be judged. Took a while, Richt however did step up. Amazing what an Athletic Director that is focused on the University of Georgia versus red panties can do with a program that has always (always) had superior talent.

There are some points of contention that you and I could have on some of the other portions of your thread. I won't start now, could be long and drawn out. Have been through a couple of battles on this board before you came here about VD and what he did for UGA. You liked him as a coach. Good.

Amazes me that more on this board and others cannot see the changes that were made were not of Richt's choosing. If you can't agree with that, you and I cannot debate.

Agree with you 100% Buc...the only reason Richt had a chance to turn things around is because McGarity allowed him to do so. Was just saying that his calm demeanor was exactly what this particular group of dawgs needed. After staring 0-2, it could've VERY easily continued to go the wrong way. I am a fan of Dooley, but am a bigger fan of Erk and was really using the two of them as an analogy to what CMR and CTG could build together...

Mike if McGarity can somehow figure out how to keep Richt and Grantham together, this could be the finest combination of coaches that UGA has ever had. I mean than with all of my being.

Said this a thousand times. When Richt signed on with UGA, I would wager that I knew more about Richt than those that were looking for hope, something, help UGA, please Lord, send us a head football coach. He did. If one believes in the book or not, Richt wandered, got lost in the desert and someone came along to pull him back. McGarity.

Many younger folks that are true supporters of UGA football do not know that Goff was the reason that Herschel Walker played football at UGA. What was Goff's reward . . . head football coach. Not Erk, Goff. Said earlier, lots of debatable things that some do not know about. You might have known the HW thingy above, but doubt it. Can't say, that is something that only you can speak to.

I love the way that Richt is conducting himself this season. In my opinion that is coaching. He has a natural raport with these young guys in high school . . . . and their parents. Anyone that thinks that Richt does not know that the black culture embraces the Lord is missing something. Don't call me on that, it is the truth.

How long do I think that Richt will remain in Athens . . . . I don't know, nor does he. For sure he will not be in the soup line tomorrow if the bottom falls out. I still think that Mark Richt has a couple of decisions to make, he knows also. Anyone that doubts that he is not calling or okaying offensive playes at this point, better get your head out of the sand, he is heavily involved. He however does not mess with Grantham and that is a very good thing for you and I.
