I think all of you know that I spent some time in the service, that being said I would like to maybe shed a little light on the situation with our three running backs by comparing it with a situation I had while a Chief in the Navy. As you know the standard answer for enlisted men and junior officers is "Ask the CHIEF" no matter what the situation. To make a long story short I was blessed with one of the most talented young Sailors to ever don the uniform, if you needed it done he could do it, and never questioned an order, AS LONG AS YOU WERE OUT TO SEA. He went to more Captains Mast than you could believe, got busted and fined at every one of them, sent to the Brig after several. The one thing you could always count on from him was that when he hit shore he was going to get drunk and fight with the locals or buy some weed and get busted on a screening. If we sent escorts with him on liberty he would either find a way to shake em or drag them down with him, lots of times it was the latter. No matter how we tried it was to no avail. He was going to do what he wanted to do and it didnt matter who got hurt by it. Finally, on the recommendation of the Chiefs onboard we asked that he be discharged due to insubordination. The Captain went along with this recommendation and took him off the ship to the Brig to await discharge. Even here they were'nt able to reel in this young man. I hope we dont have one of those, but, the story sounds all to familiar to me.
