I'm really going to step in it with my reply but you asked so here goes.....

IC is from Carver Columbus which is an all black school. Statistically blacks are more likely to come from single parent household or be raised by grandparents which in many instances lack the discipline of a two parent household. Black communities also perpetrate the Hip Hop culture which as we know celebrates the gangster lifestyle. High School coaches want their players to succeed for a variety of reasons so they may not "come clean" with a college recruiter about an athlete's past transgressions.

This is not meant as a blanket statement to all that come from heavily black communities as there are many success stories. But you can look at Miami as an example to back up my statement.

Southern.. that's why I posted that link to a pre-season interview with Jasper Sanks about
IC, and "where he comes from". JS knew full well the story, and possible issues that IC
was going to face.

My feelings on this is that we have to give people a chance, and sometimes those chances we
give are painful for all involved. The reason I would be tough on IC is because that is
what it might take to turn a life around. It's just like the military in some regards when
they show up with attitude and a history, you've got to break them down before you build
them back up. It's often a risk to recruit anyone who might have a checkered past or come
from a rough climate, but if there is one thing I do appreciate about CMR it is the fact
that I truly believe he wants to build winners in life and have these kids leave the program
as better men than they were when they entered.

Hopefully all of this is just part of the process. We just now have to sit back and see how
these young men react. It's no longer about where you came from... it's about where you
want to go.

I think all of you know that I spent some time in the service, that being said I would like to maybe shed a little light on the situation with our three running backs by comparing it with a situation I had while a Chief in the Navy. As you know the standard answer for enlisted men and junior officers is "Ask the CHIEF" no matter what the situation. To make a long story short I was blessed with one of the most talented young Sailors to ever don the uniform, if you needed it done he could do it, and never questioned an order, AS LONG AS YOU WERE OUT TO SEA. He went to more Captains Mast than you could believe, got busted and fined at every one of them, sent to the Brig after several. The one thing you could always count on from him was that when he hit shore he was going to get drunk and fight with the locals or buy some weed and get busted on a screening. If we sent escorts with him on liberty he would either find a way to shake em or drag them down with him, lots of times it was the latter. No matter how we tried it was to no avail. He was going to do what he wanted to do and it didnt matter who got hurt by it. Finally, on the recommendation of the Chiefs onboard we asked that he be discharged due to insubordination. The Captain went along with this recommendation and took him off the ship to the Brig to await discharge. Even here they were'nt able to reel in this young man. I hope we dont have one of those, but, the story sounds all to familiar to me.

Yes I do, I was awakened in the middle of the night and asked to come to the morgue at the Naval Hospital in Charleston,S.C. to identify a body. It was him, he had been shot in the head, at his apartment. He was 24 years old and it was the saddest thing I've ever seen in my life. Such a young man, talented, wasted. Thanks BUC, lets take care of these kids by doing the right thing by them now. I'm not saying any of our kids are that way, but, its up us to make sure we do all we can to be good fans and support the ones who need it.

In the construction industry, you deal with all types.
Some of the most hard working, talented craftsmen I've ever known get paid on Friday, by Saturday morning they are broke.
Show up to work Monday, loan them some money, work their buttes off all week, come Friday, same old story.
Such a shame but just the way it is.
