Why all the faith in McGarity?

Just in the last few years while at UF.

1) Carlos Dunlap DUI before the SEC Championship.

2) UF player caught using a girls creidt card that had been killed in a motorcycle wreck.

3) Chris Rainey texting girlfriend "time to die". Reinstated for UGA game though.

4) Jenoris Jenkins kicked off team for repeatedly failing drug test.

Those are just ones I can think of without looking anything up.

Best I remember J. Foley is and was the AD at UF.

And yes, I am one of those that put the program ahead of victories. What say you?

You are correct that Foley is and has been the AD for a number of years. However, when McGarrity is his assistant one must assume that he has been tutored, mentored, taught his ways, etc.

I'm simply asking why, giving the recent history at the UF program, do you have faith in him?

I think the UGA program should be honorable and not actively target thugs as recruits. But I'm not calling for a player to be benched for the season when the people in charge issue a one game suspension which follow the guidelines for whatever he did. But if you want to bench every player that gets in trouble for drinking a beer just so you can claim the moral highground be my guest.

It's systemic.
It has become a big game of gotcha.
No team or team fanbase are immune from the degradation of college football.
There have always been problems but I remember a certain man named Bear who dealt with a certain guy named Joe.

I posted this in another thread but since this thread has taken a turn , it fits here as well.

Somebody needs to take control of the UGA football program immediately.

The drug/alcohol arrest/suspensions getting old, again.

Why do we have to keep having discussions about players character?

Who in the heck decided we didn't need a special teams coach?

Why did it take years to get rid of WM?

Why is Bozo still OC?

Why are we so short of offensive lineman? and we have an "offensive" minded HC

Why am I reminded of the recruiting classes Donnan bragged about but not the w/l record to support it?

Guys I want UGA to win every game, but only with character and dignity, I don't want to be known as thug U. I would have rather lost to FL than find out the suspensions were delayed. What does that say to other athletes? other students?

It is possible to have a top 5-10 program without these issues.

Guys I love UGA,have been a fan since high school in the 70's but I hate where the football team is a whole. I will never get over Richts remarks to Franklin after the Vandy game or his swat at the fans with we don't know because we are not in the arena. Man is truly lost.

I am a UGA fan but not a CMR, IC,Bozo,CT or KM fan. They have shown they are not part of the solution. It is time for someone to take control of the UGA football program.

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

Making assumptions such as you suggest above really ring true . . . don't they? Ridiculous.

I'm simply asking why, giving the recent history at the UF program, do you have faith in him?

Might be the reason that he returned to UGA is because that is the one place he wanted to hang his hat. I accept McGarity at face value, and not sure if you have perused his resume, might want to take a look at his background in your spare moments. There are many reasons to hire a "McGarity" and they sure do not include what you suggested above.

But if you want to bench every player that gets in trouble for drinking a beer just so you can claim the moral highground be my guest.

Plain and simply a "cop out". Beginning to wonder from many of your posts just where "your" moral high ground is. Not a good subject to throw against the wall to see if it sticks.

Edit: If anyone cares, here is some information on our Athletic Director while employed at UF.

Oversees the swimming & diving and women's tennis programs, event operations, facilities, video services, risk management, information technology and communications, purchasing, auxiliary services, aviation operations and strength and conditioning programs. Assists Athletics Director in supervision of football and men's basketball programs.

Drinking a beer is simply that. Marijuana, Spice, K2 or whatever the heck these guys were doing is against the law, period. Not many in college have not "drank a beer" even while underage. These three know they will be tested, yet refuse to remove themselves from situations as this.

southernlover you are throwing some things out there for your side of this debate that hold little water.

Will say this. I can see not punishing an entire team that has worked hard, fought like heck to be in the position they are in right now from an SEC east aspect and a win streak including one over the reptiles. I don't agree with the decision to delay a suspension if results were in prior to the game in Jax, but can also see not punishing kids like Aron White, AM, JJ and all the others that are doing things right and fighting to keep this team in contention for something. Why punish the other 80 or so kids working hard every day to play for something post season wise because three nimrods decide to smoke out on the bye week? Again not agreeing, just asking?

We can also not just speculate that these knuckleheads only get the one game suspension. I can bet there is physical punishment already in the works from JT.

Why punish the rest of the team? Because they ARE a team. Unfortunately the actions of a single player influence those of the entire unit. I was in the Navy a quarter of a century ago, and had a Marine Corp Drill Instructor who drilled that fact into our little skulls-full-of-mush.

Man, I'm gettin' old.

Besides, if you suspend a player, are YOU the one punishing the team, or is HE the one punishing the team? Just askin'.
