Not giving Richt any passes on recruiting.
You win the game on the line of scrimmage.

Mike Honcho wrote: right on wlayton...definitely not trying to rationalize. Just seen a good bit of negative comments directed at the defense recently. I know this is just my opinion, but I personally believe the defense has been done a horrible disservice by the offense lately, even into the last few games of last year.

It's definitely a three-phase, team sport and when one phase doesn't do their job, another one struggles. I just feel like the defense has taken some undue shots because of turnovers, bad field position, and quick 3 and outs by the offense.

I know the flipside is to say that LSU and BAMA's defense would get the offense out of those jams, and trust me, I'm not saying our defense is anywhere near LSU's or BAMA's...YET. There's still some missed assignments, missed tackles, etc. but I love the fact that we're seeing some attitude out of our defense again. We're not far off....

I'm in total agreement with you on the subject. Not just talking about the D but the whole program. Guess just a different way of myself venting on the facts that we AREN'T LSU or BAMA and should be.....seems we HAVE to make excuses every year to make ourselves feel better. I know the D is getting there etc....so LET'S GET THERE along with the whole program. I want to WIN.

The road named Excuse is a bad one on which to travel.

This year it's a bad O-line..
Last year it was a young QB, a mediocre O-line, a new defense, and AJ suspended for 4 games.
Year before that it was blah blah..

Personally, I'm quite tired of hearing them.

Grantham is doing a good job with what he has.
Until we start recruiting those big guys up front, offense and defense, we will never rise to their level.
One thing about Nick Saban, like him or not, whether they're up 5 tds or down 2, he never quits coaching, in those kids' face, a hands on coach, not afraid to let them have it.
No insults intended to Richt but you gotta have somebody that can do that and Grantham can.
Probably why a certain college president hates him.

averagedawg, have watched a lot of film clips of Coach Saban and his time spent with different programs. You are so right, never quits coaching, whether practice field or game time, does not miss a beat. Grantham spent some time with Saban and you don't work with Saban and not pick up some quality coaching tips.

Not sure what the end result of this coaching staff will be, but for my part Grantham has not hurt our program. One thing for sure, the players on that side of the ball have bought into Grantham's way. Many on the "Dream Team" knew that they could play for Saban or Grantham. Some chose the latter.

As far as Adams, put him in a shoe box with "Bucky". Both full of themselves, and still can't figure out why they are where they are.

I wish I had stared posting here 3 years ago and started a weekly excuse thread.

It would probably have about a 1000+ posts by now. Of course though... at least 700 of them
would have been made by Buck Belue.

Because of our situation on the OL, Coach Bobo has to continue to use the "Smoke & Mirrors" Approach. Do a little of this and a little of that. Mike will continue to get criticized, but those in the know understand that the issue isn't play-calling...it's a below average O-Line.

Idiotic. Self-absorbed, smoke filled, coffee house crap. Those truly in the know, Suck Belue, understand there are many ways to overcome an average O-line. Many teams that have great offenses don't have a line full of all-americans. It's called playing to your strenghts, Suck and Bozo. If you have fast receivers, do quick slants or WR screens. If you have a fast back, do swing passes and pitch outs. If you have a mobile qb, do roll-outs. If you have a world class tight end, USE HIM. If you have a huge, good fullback, USE HIM. And that means use them for blocking AND ball possession. But rather than ever listen to advice from folks you consider not "in the know," just continue to bury your head in the sand and listen to replays of the Suck and Bozo show. Moron.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!
